Rep Power: 19 ![]() | Bah, auto-smiley's... Actually, now that I think about it, I would not be surprised if Grey Hunters did NOT gain a CCW, but just the Bolt Pistol that has become uniform. The reason I suspect this is that having uber grit makes a unit able to perform well in either an offensive or defensive role, but Grey Hunters have always been experts of counter-attack, not assault. And the new rules for Counter-Attack make it more devastating than ever. So if Grey Hunters had Bolters, Bolt Pistols, (grenades of course), and Counter-Attack, they would be almost as potent as they are now. Now the tricky thing is that such a state of afairs would make the Hunters WEAKER than they are now, which is bad (never mind according points drops). BUT, if the Hunters got Counter-Attack AND uber grit, they would not only be a brutal assault unit (leave that to the Blood Claws, says I), but would be able to rapid fire in their turn and counter-attack with THREE attacks per model. Grey Hunters are good, but that is in excess of the capabilities of Codex Chapters' Veterans! That's my pondering anyway. *Entreats the Crimson Cyclops for word of the new Space Wolf codex*

now i am a space wolves player and have only played space wolves(except once or twice when i locked in my codex marines and said i might try that out) and have done so for 6 years and i think that grey hunt do use the bolt pistol because alot of the time you a bit short of points going to confilct and your 1 or 2 points over so you give a guy or 2 a bolt pistol and keep the melta and in glasgow iam the only true space wolf player i know of because being agenst the scotish nature most people like to shot or have mass nuber (m8s 1500 pt grechen army LOL) and so i whould love to get update for space wolfs but popular demand here is just not high enuff space wolfs 16000 pts necromunda 2 gangs runing ork blood ball team and oger blood ball team |

[quote=in glasgow iam the only true space wolf player i know of because being agenst the scotish nature [/QUOTE] 1.) I know of at least 2 other Space Wolves players in Glasgow (which is what convinced me to start playing them) 2.) I have no idea what you think is 'Scottish Nature' but Space Wolves aren't too far off conventional Scots infantry tactics during the old wars (Blood Claws are in many ways just Highlander Broadswordsmen) 3.) Of all the Scottish players I know, which at the moment is about 20, only three play Horde Armies, one Orks, one Tyranids, and just for the sheer number of figures I have to include the guy who plays Imperial Guard. The rest are Eldar/Marines/Necrons etc etc. But thanks for the input about the Grey Hunters. Though to be honest, I tend to find that the extra few points to give bolters comes in pretty handy at taking on Horde armies, one shot at 24" and two at 12" vs one at 12" then the assault (only total +2 attacks) of a superior force which - while some may die - will likely cause 50% casualties to the squad? |

If you compare them to assaulty vets they always come out behind as the assault vets have 3 base attacks to the greyhunters 2. They cost about 20 points each and I would bet the Greyhunters come in pretty close to that (possibly one less). Their is also something to be said that giving the enemy the charge isn't always going to be the best play as even if you get an extra attack, it is frequently nice to make sure they don't. | |

The problem I see is that alot of what made SWs more elite than others is no longer all that special. 2 examples: Everything that infiltrates/Scouts has outflank (A poor man's Operate Behind Enemy Lines) Normal SMs now get WS5 BS5 Ven. Dreds (I think). I'd like to see Space Wolves go back to where they used to be, somewhere between Chaos Space Marines and normal Space Marines..

space wolf were never some place between chaos marines and marines unless you refer to 13th company witch can still be used if you have the eye of terror sup book space wolf should be small elite close quarter masters not chaotic marines well that's what i think any way ![]() and if you are a sw player in Glasgow go to gw on a Thursday and see how many sw players ther are( ok its not a tusday but unders can go on thursdays if they ask nicely and play necromunda and blood ball) Last edited by wolf lord vonhogan; October 13th, 2008 at 03:05.. Hey guys, I know you have gotten a bit off topic, but back to the original idea of this thread, the Space Wolves new codex. I have it on good acount from a GW Regional Manager that the puppies are getting redone very soon. He told us, and I quote, "The Space Wolves are looking fantastic." That means they are in production, so they can't be far off. just thought I'd put in my two cents.

Possibly that refers to a upcoming release of models...rather than an updated codex.

What would be wrong with keeping Grey hunters as is? Bolter plus CCW with true grit (they had it first) and counter attack. Close Range firepower and when charged, they get a lot of attacks. I can see blood claws getting furious charge instead. I don't see why SW Venerable Dread should be any better than SM Ven Dread, except that they need to include Special Character Bjorn the Fell Handed. Increases in special weapons and heavy weapons are likely, with reduction in transports to match the new marine codex. That is my guess anyway.
