Default Space Wolves

Heard of a tentative release date of December. Noticed people have heard the rumors, but there is no thread for people to say so, and what they think. Any thoughts?

It's almost certainly not december. There's a provisional release schedule floating about the forum somewhere and Space Wolves are not on it.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were waiting a very long time - the new SM dex is released soon, then they've got IG early-mid 09. They're also re-doing the dark eldar soon and (fingers crossed) the Inquisition. So (as a minor "spin-off" army) the Space Wolves will probably be waiting for a goodly while.

I certainly hope so, anyway - there are other races that need new dexes - obviously the Dark Eldar and the Inquisition. Crons could do with an update too.

Not really my choice of army, really Still, new Inquisition will be good. Even if they didn't finish the last trilogy. Can you post links to the GW site to make a point? Theres a WH article that says there would be a new Alien Hunters codex soon. When C:WH was released.

I know what you mean - it is annoying isn't it. Yeah you can link to the site - go for it!

I think the plan was for Codex:Inquisition to cover the Ordo Xenos and for the codex to come out much sooner than it has, but for some reason it got shelved. Oh well.

GW Online : Warhammer 40,000 : Witchhunters : Witch Hunter Designers' Notes

3rd Paragraph references a "trilogy" of Inquisition books.

Personally, I'm seeing the choice of Inquisitor, Canoness, Brother-captain (DW or GK) for HQ, maybe Inquisitor being compulsory, and the second choice influencing the troops choices you need to take. Maybe could take others as elites? That will be one massive Codex!

SoB: Inexpensive. GK: Expensive. DW: Very expensive. (I can't imagine a DW kill team list that would not tempt the owner into a huge number of point. The one I planned was about 300 )

Edit: Sorry, this is going a bit off topic. So! Space Wolves...

There are conflicting rumors on the release schedule (when are there not though?). I heard people talking about Space Wolves being set for next in line after Dark Eldar, unles it gets pushed back to after Imperial Guard. There was no mention of a Codex Inquisition in the works, and people were ticked, because they really NEED a new Codex!

But Space Wolves are the last SM-based list needing to be redone, and as a more popular choice (from what I've seen - I know it varies from place to place) than Inquisition, I would imagine they get a redo first.

SO, Space Wolves in line but with no real info leaks yet, UNLESS my rumor happens to be the wrong one, and that's a 50/50 chance.

As for contents, expect to see the awesomely huge armory of wargear gone. Thus, Wolf Guard will work much differently. But seeing the trend with Chaos Chosen and Terminators, I would think they will still have loads of options for cheap. A bit more restricted, but I'm sure that will be counterbalanced. Other than that, I heard a very tentative rumor that Blood Claws will up WS but not BS to 4 (less likely), and replace Berserk Charge with Furious Charge (more likely). Who knows? Oh, and Rune Priests are assuredly going to get at least 2 more psychic powers to choose from, since even the Blood Angels new minimal list of powers is that long.

And everyone's hoping for some inclusion of the 13th Company, but its a slim chance. Keep your fingers or paws or whatever you crazy space-vikings have crossed!

An employee at my store says GW has announced to retailers they will release SM and Wolves this year, Wolves this December. There should be another imperial book Q1 of '09, but he said wasn't told whether it's IG or Inq. (I believe it's IG based on planet strike, new stormies, valkery, great coats, etc) After that is Dark Eldar and Necrons. Said employee also told me back in January/February that 5th ed would be out in July per GW announcement to retailers. Take that for what you will.

Chaplin, you need to link that schedule because at lot of evidence from Bell and sources at Warseer says otherwise.

P.S. For all that is holy, do not, repeat, NOT quote me on the Dark Eldar or Necrons. Also, do not thread jack this post to talk about DE or Necrons. There's enough bad/bizarre/crap rumors floating around as it is, I don't want to contribute. There is a lot of stuff out there to corroborate that SW is a December release, check Bell or Warseer. I'm just adding my two cents.

Well, I agree on Furious Charge (seems only fitting, really...), but I fail to see what's so unlikely about a WS bump without a BS bump? Blood Claws are the raw recruits, right? And they've just been yanked straight out of what is basically a historical Viking society, yes? Observe, if you will, that both Vikings and native Fenrisians are severely lacking in the firearms department.

All this adds up to a bunch of troopers for whom the very concept of the gun is still awfully new - and the concept of "accuracy" takes second place to the concept of "loud end towards the bad guys, boys!" at this point. Conversely though, the concept of bashing somebody's head in with a battleaxe? Second nature! Therefore it makes perfect sense (IMHO) that they're better at close combat than they are with a gun, at this point.

I have it on good authority that Codex Necrons is coming out next week with a new special rule called "Wrath of the Ancients." basically, if you don't kill EVERY Necron model by the end of the first turn, they summon enough reinforcements to automatically win the game.

...I sure hope no-one is gullible enough to think that was anything but tongue-in-cheek...

I must agree with Dr. Paris - we just don't know anything about new Necrons yet, and all we have for DE that's solid enough are 2 (or so) pictures.

Fluff-wise, I have to agree with Fenrisians likely being adept with the fine art of bashing things with axes. However, it seems unreasonable to give them a points drop just for BS3 when it seldom makes any difference anyway (for Blood Claws)! I'd like to see Blood Claws as a cheaper unit with WS3 just for diversity. Really stresses their green horns, but is well-compensated by Furious Charge. Honestly though, I'm rather surprised to find myself going against fluff-reasoning! Really though, I think I'd be happy with WS4 BS4 Blood Claws if they had Ld7 or I3 or something else.

Oh, and the "unlikely" bit was concerning them raising one but not the other. I don't know, it just seems that it wouldn't be clean and simple enough for them...
