If this post has already been made.....sorry but I looked.
Any-hoo, I was in my local GW when a staff member showed me a preliminary set of amended rules for the up and comming rulebook re-vamp. The document he showed me was simpley designed to allow store workers to plan out store tournament and so wasnt complete, but one rule did catch my eye as interesting. It seems that AP 1 guns now get auto penetration as long as they hit a vehicle. This seemed odd as that would make meltas kind of amazing but also discounted their 2D6 rule.........stange indeed. Any thoughts or info.........
A Rhino? SLOTH!
I had this strange idea, for some reason, that GW was attempting to improve the role of tanks when I read the last TVR. However, it seems as if the pendulum has swung the other direction in the space of the past few months and now they want to make tanks suck again.
No hull down in cover anymore, AP 1 weapons auto penetrate; I can't WAIT to see what they do to them next. Sheeeesh.
Well now there is actually a point to having weapons with an AP of 1. I have always wondered what is the point of having AP 1 instead of making them AP 2 (since 2 is all you need to get rid of the best save in the game).
Remember that there are not that many AP 1 weapons in the game (I can think of melta weapons and the equivalents that other races have such as Eldar Fusion guns and Tau Railguns. Thats it.) and those that are, well it fits in with the fluff that they should be able to punch through armour, since that is what they are designed for.
Not counting Ranger long-rifles when they roll 6's, since it is evident that a sniper rifle would not be able to damage the vehicle.
It seems like the new tank rules makes them shoot more effectively on the move, at the same time as they get a little bit easier to kill. I think those two things balance each other out. You can move away from those troops with AP1 weapons at the same time as you kill them with your cannon. Meltas and fusion guns will have a hard time getting in range.. At the same time, With those new AP rules, tank players will be punished harder when they play clumsily. And now it really is the time to get more of those Land Speeders with multimeltas . Oh, and it's time to build bigger boards.
Ave Dominus Nox!
:o That just plain sucks right there. That rule would make land raiders pretty much useless, i pray to god they don't put that in. It will make taking out tanks like taking out gretchin or ripper swarms.
what makes you think that landraiders are useless, aparently you have no idea of playing properly with tanks
besides there are only a handfull of AP 1 weapons and nearly all of them have short range
Besides, basically the only AP1 weapons are meltas, and if they are at half range they will almost always penetrate anyway...
A Promise to a dead man means nothing.
this sounds like someones been bulsh!ting you. but if not, well itll change thin
Children in the dark cause accidents, accidents in the dark cause childen.
It isn't auto-penetrating. It means all glancing hits become penetrating hits.

Tau: 4/4/3 - 50%
DaemonHunters: 1/2/0 - 33.3%
Dark Angels: 3/1/0 - 75%
count all glancing hits as penetrating hits
