I know there is a C'tan rumor thread going, but bigred at BoLS has a post concerning an overall rumor of the next codex, for Necrons. From the 'sound' of it, we won't be losing the C'tan per se, just the notion that the actual, individual entities of the Deceiver and Nightbringer are present on the battlefield, at least in non-Apoc. games.Hi all, there is some Necron Scuttlebutt floating about out there.
Early word is that Necrons may be slated for the Q2-09 40k release slot. There is another codex scheduled ahead of them but there is conflicting data on what it is (currently bouncing around between IG, Space Wolves, Dark Eldar). The info reported so far is:
Removal of the C'tan from the Codex as fieldable units (they are still in the fluff).
The C'tan are to be moved over to Apocalypse where they will make an appearance as much more powerful single figures (possibly with attendant new oversized Forgeworld minis).
The big new HQ replacement for them will be entirely new tiered-level Necron Lords. Read the Apocalypse Necron background page for insight into what may be coming, but there is talk of Bronze, Silver, Gold, possibly even Platinum Lords.
Lords are said to have multiple special abilities and options, and certtain levels of Lords may re-arrange the Force Org chart for certain units, making different army builds possible. An example of an option was an advanced necrodermis, allowing the Lord to mimic his C,tan masters (and conveniently allow for the use of the existing C'Tan minis).
There will be Necron Lord named characters.
The rest of the army is described as getting a small number of new units, and having several existing units rearranged by Force Org category.
In general, the Necron army is desribed as being somewhat "buffed".
~Interesting if true, and these would seem to dovetail nicely with the last set of Necron rumors we heard several months ago. A Q2 release slot seems odd unless there is some issue with mini or codex development with several of the other codices which are older (Wolves and Dark Eldar mainly). Still I would applaud the move if only to rid the game of the wonkiness and arguments that We'll Be Back can generate. As usual, Caveat emptor folks.
This opens the door for the release of Void Dragon and Outsider abilities through the rumored necrodermis option/wargear. This is very encouraging. The rumor of moving some units around in the FOC is also encouraging as one section may seem saturated and another more barren.

Interesting. Moving the Ctan to something more in their league is a nice idea, they can finally be more like actual Gods. And ill look forward to fully customisable Lords, that will make huge differences to Cron armies, much more fun. Ooh! maybe ill finally be able to play a true Wraith arm!
I like the idea of the C'Tan becoming apocalypse but still getting to keep their profiles as such for normal games. It does seem a bit daft at the moment, they're supposed to be gods and they currently have a similar level of power to a greater daemon.
The idea of different lords making different build armys sounds interesting. Maybe we can get a wraith lord and wraiths can then be taken as troops or a FO lord and FOs as troops

Been here nearly 10 years and still haven't managed 500 posts.
Also, bigred gives credit to BrimStone and MoonlightSonata at Warseer for the exposure of this information. Brim is supposed to have a certain amount of clout when he mentions something about rumors as they are often revealed as true. Thusly, I'd like to point out that he mentions that Pariahs may be in for a little change.
It's interesting how the concept of the necrodermis, new Lords, and FOC changes fall in line with the concept we've discussed here at LO regarding 'chapters' of a sort. Meaning that, through the selection of a particular Lord or identity based upon a particular C'tan, a player can make selections of certain units and have them count for other FOC slots. Even if this isn't what they are doing, something similar is down the pipe and would do the Necrons well.
If these rumors are true, GW is doing things right.

I'd like to see more customisation possible for Necrons. The idea behind the army is solid, but they are much maligned at the moment for being boring, with only a few competative builds. And replacing the C'Tan with more powerful Lords, and moving the C'Tan to be Titan-esque in power is a good idea. Can't wait to see a C'Tan go toe-to-toe with a Titan in an Apoc game
FABRICATI DIEM, PVNC
It sounds like we're going to see the Necrons be a lot more similar to the DoW versions (with the Nightbringer morph ability and the lord's abilities altering the unit's function and force org)
This sounds like a good evolution for them fluff wise, making the lords a more vital part of the army, "legionizing" them with special abilities, etc. It sounds like WBB is definetally going to be replaced by FnP, but considering Necrons are an evolving army, I don't think it will really ruin their character. I think fluff wise you'll seek Necrons changing from small scout and phantom armies to more of a full fledge combat force. Scary times for the Imperium indeed.
Any news about brand new unit choices/ troop units?
Good necron rumors, that means there will be a new codex soonish and the necxrons really need new models plastic models. Hopefully there will be some unit upgrades for the warriors as they are essential but ultimately dull.
IG Best Gen 1st overall of 10 DE 4th overall of 6
Eldar 3rd Overall/Best General of 26--2nd Overall/Best General of 7--1st Overall/Best General of 11
These sound like really great rumours if they do turn out to be true. Im sure a bit more customization is what alot of players are looking for.
Space Wolves (Under Construction) | Circle of Orboros (Under Construction)
Hmm.... I might want to start necrons if they do this right. Always kinda liked them, but couldn't bring myself to start an army (not enough customization and such)
I think a lot of DoW elements are showing up in the table top game, such as SM chapter masters getting a 1 use orbital bombardment (see Space Marine Preview thread page 2), a good idea considering how DoW probably brings new players into the (far superior) table top version.
They should give necron lords lots of crazy powers and options like how Vampire counts do in fantasy, that would be cool.
