Bell of Lost Souls: GDUK NEWS: Part 2
Looks a hell of a beastie, plus semi-confirmation of traitor codices.
I can't say I've seen it all but I live for the things that keep me hollow.
I can't really foresee them doing a full codex for each of the traitor Legions, though I could easily see them releasing army lists for them a la the Blood Angels PDF codex.
A couple of tweaked rules and a few special characters here or there. It would do well to demonstrate how varied the all legions were (including the loyalists) before they all had to adopt the Codex Astartes.
The Ironclad Dread looks pretty sweet. I do believe I will be getting one of those at some point.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
Looks fantastic, honestly my favorite unit of the new codex. Hell of a beast, two heavy flamers with 4 attacks on charge, and with nearly the front Armour of a land raider touch to destroy by most units I wish to set it on. I am so dropping them into squads of Eldar
Really happy with the way GW is going, and it is also nice to know Dark Eldar are getting some attention.
My thoughts on individual sections of codex's, ala space marine space wolfs, blood angels, dark angels and so forth.
Err all 9 legions would be interesting, most probably only the big 4 as mentioned would get an actual book. But I am a traditionalist, I prefer the way the new space marine codex has done things, where you can have whatever you want and a few edits in rules and abilities depending what characters you take.... they could have easily included Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Templars, Wolfs into it but eh, no biggie. I just prefer one big book for each race with the ability to customize instead of one big book with a load of sidelines.
Ehhh.... I don't think they could have included wolves and templars that easily, but BA and DA diverge little enough that they probably could have been built in (though GW would probably have been razed to the ground by rabid fans for that).
The way BT is set up is too different from normal marines to be represented by them- like they can't take dev units or libbies, and then there's the whole Emperor's Champion and vows thing... They diverge from the standard marine book nearly more than chaos does!
With wolves, they have their own differences- unique wargear, different way of setting up their HQ, the fact that people start in the assault squads and work their way up while scouts are elite vetern marines, wulfen, the whole taking wolves with them thing, the fact that they don't actually have vetern or terminator squads, etc. Very significant divergences.
Meanwhile with DA its fearless terminators and bike units with a unique setup. Other than that its just special characters. With BA they have death company and the baal predator. Both of them are codex chapters with some extra personality while SW and BT aren't codex in the least, and never were (at least for SW-> even the 2nd Ultramarines book states that DA and BA are mostly codex chapters, but Russ chose to form the SW how he chose, Codex Astartes be damned).
Essentially what I'm saying is that while DA and BA could probably have been built in, saying that SW and BT could have been included in the new SM book is like saying that the CSM book could have been built into the new space marine book twice. Sure there's similarities, but there's also a hell of a lot of differences, too.

Luckily the rabid fans don't make too much of a financial issue, I honestly just think it was so more books could be sold, but what do I know.
Honestly even though Templars separate them selfs, its not hard to make a simple yay or nay list of units they can take, quick special rules, new characters, maybe your right but I still think they could do the whole lot, it just sells more books in the end.
Think of it as this, if they did do it for the main 4 who separate, DA, SW, BT and BA, I think it would be an extra oh.... 30-40 pages. I dunno, oh well, I wish to play vanilla marines anyway, the new special elites, new ironclad, new land raider and the way even basic marines are even more deadly for a tiny extra cost each has made me look much more favorably at them. Although I still love Eldar and Tyranids... but I remain where I stand, all of these extra books are more of a cash cow than anything, I am not denying that they are not brilliantly made, they are, but I believe for plain rules, it could be done, just would require an even thicker book.
And yes good old russ eh haha. He is still my faveroute patriarch.
I plan to start Salamander SM in the future, and the Ironclad seems the perfect unit to match the chapter. Heavy flamers, close combat monster and a whole lotta armour. What's not to like?
I personally wish that they would establish a more solid line of online PDF mini-dexes. For example, has anyone taken a look at all the Iron Hands material out there? There basically is none. They're a 1st founding Legion with rich history and a depth of fluff, but the likes of Crimson Fists and Blood Ravens (don't get me wrong, they are both incredible Chapters) get more attention in codices. I know I'm being very specific to talk about Iron Hands, but they're a great example - HUGE divergence from Codex organization, with Iron Fathers completely replacing Chaplains, Terminator suits given to Vet. Sergeants instead of forming squads, and a limited number of Dreadnoughts being used as HQ.
My point is, the Iron Hands are just begging for a PDF mini-dex, and there are a lot of other armies right up there with them. We need to see more of those!
The above is a monument to my ineptitude at signature customization!
oh man, if they made an Iron Hands mini-dex, id be all over em. i love the fluff and models, but could never bring myself to do them as a vanilla marine army.
the ironclad though..... i just dont know. it seems to busy. it looks hardcore dont get me wrong, but id probably end up making my own out of the current dread and some parts from the ruined building sets. still, maybe ill pick up one
now can u imagine a venerable ironclad damn that id be hard to kill plus it would look cooooooool
