At least they didn't attempt to justify not bringing DA in line with crappy excuses.

Otherwise, I raged.

I suspected such would be the case, so it doesn't really bother me all that much. I do have to say I'll probably try using my DA models with the new Marine dex. I'll cry at the loss of Sammy, but will likely be comforted by the fact that I'll have better storm shields than I used to, not to mention access to the new veterans.

I think its about the best we could have hoped for really. Their 'all in the one codex' policy pretty much guaranteed we'd be lagging behind the new stuff.

Still, some other stuff from the errata that caught my eye (not sure if this was in the previous one or not)

#1. It looks like they fixed the combat squad rule at long last. No more scoring devs and the like, but the silly "if it still has half or more of its starting models" part is gone. Good stuff

#2. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from the rewording for the company vets entry, it seems that any model in the squad can have a power weapon/fist/combi-weapon and the like.
certainly makes sense when compared to new marines and such. would I be going out on a limb in saying I now prefer the flexibility of our vets. granted, we don't have any fancy ammo, but having a unit with combi-weapons and storm bolters, backed up with a few power fists, will be a force to be reckoned with

It would not have taken much work or foresight to do these in a different order, and not create a blood angels and dark angels pair of codices that are universally inferior to their standard marine brethren. While fluff players may still stick with the ba/da codices, most competitive players are just going to play dark angels "breakaways" using the new marine rules and options.

The long-winded spinjob re: "fun of the game" implies a subtle belief that we are all very simple minded customers.

Nonetheless, thanks J for the link.

Well after reading that all I can deduce is:

I cant believe how they took the new format in BA and DA and actually upgraded marines to be the new and improved delta force rather than the Spartains.

So, basically, DA storm shields and land raiders just work differently than those of all other chapters except for BA, SW and BT? I'm sure there's some kind of tech-heresy implied somewhere in there...

Wouldn't SW get to use normal SM storm shields? While it does say what the old ones do in the summary page, it still mentions that you should refer to the main SM codex for weapons and equipment rules. Same thing for things such as the assault cannon.

SW definately get the new land raiders, though, because there's no rules for them in the SW book at all.
