Fiscal year 2012, which begins on April 1, 2011, should see the launch of THQ's mysterious Warhammer 40,000 MMO, under development in-house by Vigil Games.

PC Gamer had an interview regarding this game months ago. It will NOT be a FPS. It will be a standard RPG where all players are Rogue Traders.

Theres the article.
"All of the races important to Warhammer 40,000 lore (not to mention the fans) will be represented", creative director Joe Madureira has explained, adding that "We want each and every race to have weight in the game world... and feel distinct."
"According to the info, the title's definitely an MMORPG as opposed to what could have been a Planetside-esque MMOFPS. But despite that it appears developer Vigil Games is aiming for a reasonably in-depth combat system, as it's orientated around cover, suppressive fire and flanking."
Here is part of the interview I found online:

Eh, I'm more interested in the Company of Heroes online project myself....it's a;ready online, so how can you make it MORE online?
The only feasible way I can see to make a 40k mmo is the seemingly stndard 'faction' warfare based game, however the only problem with this is that it would be sort of whittled down to order (Eldar, IG, Tau), vs eh the Orks really...I dont think people would desire to play bugs and if you put in SM/CSM then you would have nothing more then Space Marine Online....which would be an uninteresting exercise in futility.
Or they will just do Dark Hersey Online, and you will be schmo human, of schmo class...and in which case there would probably be an abundant amount of guardsmen and assassins.
