I Don't know whether this has been raised on the rumours + previews forum before but I have it from a usually well informed Staff member that the Doomwheel WILL be returning this year with a new plastic kit *drools*
I know that these rumours are sometimes untrue but seeing as we are about 3 months from release I think these have a good chance of beeing solid. I have also heard that while Skryre will be slightly nerfed to prevent SAD lists. the other clans will all become better. Does anyone else have any information regarding the doomwheel or the new Skaven?
Doomwheel = lame. I hope they don't bring it back. The Skaven aren't some kind of killer hamster, and they aren't chaos so the verminlord doesn't make sense either (greater daemon? come on) But no use in whining about it, i just hope its not true.
So the Skaven might become more powerful without SAD lists. They might now use an actual swarm style play.
sorry modds but needed to be said
Sorry spike12225, but you'd benefit from adopting a politer tone in the future. Just needed to be said. -AFG//

Its not the rules I care about in this instance, besides I don't see how a giant war machine and a giant daemon promote "swarm style play." Anyway, my problem with the Doomwheel is that I feel like having them run around in (or on top of as the case may be) this thing just ruins their image as these terrifying assassins that run around during the night and kill you. Even as technomages, it seems like these diabolical rat-things would come up with something better than a GIANT KILLER HAMSTER WHEEL, I just can't even take that seriously.
As for the Verminlord, even GW itself said that they wanted to seperate the idea of the Skaven from Chaos by getting rid of what is essentially a greater daemon (In an issue of White Dwarf before their last release). If you want to give skaven a giant magical beast, I'm sure Moulder and Skryre could come up with something just as effective.
As I said, I don't even care what the rules for these things are, they just don't feel right to me for what the Skaven have become. Read The Loathsome Ratmen: And all their Vile Kin to see what I'm talking about.

I agree with Nillic that it would be more in the line with the feel of the skaven if they could come up with something large from clan Moulder. Gigantic Rat, Larger ratogre or something like that. Make it not suck and give it some sort of save. That would do it for me.
As for the doom wheel I welcome all kinds (almost) of weird contraptions. I saw somewhere giant rats with bombs on their backs, that would be awsome.
It strikes me as strange (and scary) that we havn't seen any solid rumors, sneek peaks or pictures of new models. Its all to quiet.

Ermm. Whilst GW has tried to seperate Ratmen from Chaos it is impossible to argue that they ARE children of Chaos as much as Beastmen and other mutants. The VerminLord as a manifestation of the Horned Rat makes sense. After all, teh Lords of Decay are probably so infussed with his power and warpstone that they are probably one step down from becoming the Skaven equivalent of a demon prince...
As for the Doomwheel. Well TBH in the dreamings of some maddened Clan Skyre engineer, anything is possible. If teh doomewheel isn't hamster powered, but rather has an IC engine, then nothing wrong with it. Its essentially a mobile warp-lightining cannon...
These two units "back in the day" were fun and quite reasonable additions to a Skaven army - a Vermin Lord wasn't SO powerful as to be unbeatable (my Prince Tyrion beat him frequently enough..) and the Doomwheel was often isolated from teh rest of the army and easy meat for war machines or cavalry. The mdoels were not as well done as they could've been, and the ideas lacked finesse in execution, but that is really all it was.
As for teh Horned Rat, I believe that he may be a minor Chaos power, a mightly demon of Tzeentch perhaps, or a demon whose allegiance switches between change and decay to reflect the resurgence of teh Plague Priests..

Skaven army book rumours
The new Skaven army book is due in november 2009 and is written by Jeremy Vetock. It will be the second and last army book in 2009 (sadly).
Remember that an absence of rumours is not a rumour of absence. Just because there are no rumours on your favourite unit or character doesn't mean that it won't be in the army book.
Most army book releases nowadays tend to be accompanied by 2 or 3 plastic kits
-plastic box of 10/20
- concept sketches by Jes Goodwin and Brian Nelson
- wear tattered robes and armour somewhat similar to LotR moria goblins
- the box may or may not contain parts to make weapon teams
Stormvermin - almost a given
- presumably a plastic box of 10
- plastic or metal box of 1
- smaller than the old version
Screaming Bell / unknown new war machine thingy
- plastic box, makes one or the other
- the bell variant comes with part of the church still attached
- it is unknown what the new war machine is, but given the structure of the screaming bell model, it would be logical to assume some sort of catapult. It is NOT a Cauldron of a Thousand Poxes
Slaves? - a definite possiblility
- presumably a plastic box of 10 or 20 with limited options and poses
So The rumour is a old one at best ...
Seeing GW is going plasic all over the board would suggest the wheel is gone go that way as well.....
if you ask me it would be good to add a new unit that has previously been taken away from us skaven players. it would be nice to have a makeover of the entire army like the empire. if they do bring out new remodeled units and to bring back an old unit would be brilliant.
if they did come back then i would buy four just to have a play about with the models and do some conversion's i could have an excuse to start builiding my skaven castle pulled by doom wheels.
if anyone is going to gamesday just to let them know that there's a big game of skaven vs empire and dwarfs (there should be a giant mechana rat which will be confronted by steam tanks.)
hopefully there will be some skaven on the future releases stall.
i'm happy because if they do bring back the doomwheel then i will own one because when i started skaven last year there was no doomwheel.
