Default Tyranids news and rumours

The old news is that Tyranids gets a brand new codex 2nd January 2010.

Codex is written by Robin Cruddace (the brain behind IG-codex).

GW has stated on their website that there will be three new plastic kits and three new metal models released alongside the Codex.

Edit: some more newsflash:

Quote:
The Codex will put an emphasis on the horde aspect of Tyranids but will also allow for more specialised armies with more survivable units.

Units

Kelly confirmed 4 new races never before in a Tyranid Codex, with one of them dwarfing the Carnifex. The latter is certainly the Plastic Trygon (see pic2 and 3), that was confirmed by several unnamed sources. Some of the new race miniatures might be included in a 2nd wave release or keep their Forge World models for the time being (Malanthrope?).

Special characters including Old One Eye will return (including Red Terror?). They are not meant as individuals, but more like mutated survivors of a big war (says Kelly).

There may be a Hive Tyrant plastic kit with all options including wings. Uncertain.

A new WIP brood lord sculpt has been presented at the GW Design Studio Open Day in February (see pic 4 by philbrad2), not known if it is part of the release though.

Trygon multipart plastic kit with a.o. a Zoantroph-like head and other variants. One source says basically three options.

Malanthrope may be one of the four new races. An HQ choice. One of the new HQs is said to allow ripper swarms to controll objectives (Malanthrope?).

Hopefully a new Gargoyle plastic box.

Hormagaunts in separate box from other Gaunts. According to Xas Hormagaunts will be 6 points and normal Gaunts 3 points including Without Number (WON). Hormagaunts will be able to buy WON for the same cost as the current Termagants. Also according to Xas Genestealers are going to be elite unless you take a Broodlord (who can supposedly be upgraded much more than the current one.) There is a vague rumour that GW wants to get rid of calling all gaunts with different weapons "different species", but just Gaunts or Termagants with different weapon options. Not sure if this will have any consequences ruleswise.

Warriors with major improvements: Wings will make them Fast Attack, a Tyrant as a HQ makes them troops, heavy support have +1t, +1sv and each can take a "heavy" weapon.

More anti-tank power confirmed by Kelly.

Max Jet is certain that we will see another new biovore sculpt.

Catachan Devils?

Mieotic Spore Sacs? Looks like one is featured on the cover. And GW doesn't need to design a new species.

One new race may be a Zoantroph/Lictor mix (same as Zoantroph/Trygon mix mentioned above?). Tyranids have supposedly got ahold of an alpha+ level psyker and integrated his DNA into the swarm meaning they will have about as many psychic powers to choose from as space marines (and they are all assumed to "make world wolf look like a child's game").
Kudos to Bregalad over at warseer for this fine summery. Linky Linky

The cover again for those who have been in nimbus lately:

And thanks to our friends over at Bols we have a picture of a new bug, taken from WD:

First off, this is not a rumour, this is a piece of legitimate news. I have known this for the whole day now, it came with the original article. Can't wait till tomorrow! Then one night less to the release of the consumer!

Here's hoping to a plastic tyrant and gargoyles box set alongside the already-known plastic trygon.

I'm adding it to the first post.

Wow i desperatly hope even half the stuff there is true, warriors as troops is awsome, loving the cheapend hormaguants, without number on them would be great, and that uber-psyker sounds brilliant, HQ zoanthrope perhaps?

"Make world wolf look like child's play"?? Seriously? The ability to basically annihilate any model you like at any time, along with anyone unlucky enough to be in line with him isn't enough, so we just had to take yet another step closer to simply pulling out the "I win" button?!?

Now, I know Codex creep is just a fact of 40K life, but World Wolf was pushing it a bit - I'm not really sure I want to see what this might look like!

They are trying to aim away from the Nidzilla approach so? Love the idea of the Nids evolving-the Lictors getting hold of an alpha-class psyker is pretty inspiring stuff.
(must say its very careless on the psykers part though getting eaten be nids, very careless indeed )

I wonder if the Nids are going to get more of a focus fluff wise as being the main threat to the Imperium.

And how rubbish is it that the SW codex isnt even out yet and JoWW has such a poor reputation. (Personally I think its dumb but anyway)

Sounds good.
Might have to pull my Hive fleet from the land of broken and disused models and give them some new life. I like the idea of cheap hormogaunts and good warriors.
I might even buy a plastic Tyrant.
I have 3 metal ones (2nd Edition and 3rd Edition) 3rd Edition ones are hard to keep in one piece..
Plastic Lictor would be a boon. I hate building big metal models.
