Incoming: Storm of Magic
Storm of Magic - when the eight winds howl...
The Winds of Magic are tumultuous. Drawn by Morrslieb, they are prone to rise from a strong gale into a howling tempest. And when they do no kingdom or realm is safe.
Monsters awaken from their slumber and are summoned from their lairs at the bidding of sorcerous masters. Armies assemble, ready to defend their borders or seize the opportunity to gain limitless power. It is in these desperate times tenuous pacts between wizards and creatures of darkness are sealed to create alliances never thought possible.
A time of doom and great deeds is at hand. Will you rise to meet the storm?
Announcing the impending arrival of Storm of Magic, the latest and largest Expansion for Warhammer, the Game of Fantasy Battles. Launched in July 2011, Storm of Magic describes what happens when great eldritch maelstroms roil across the lands. Magic becomes far more powerful and there is a whole range of Cataclysm spells to cast, unleashing untold devastation on the enemy. Arcane Fulcrums burst from the ground, not only acting as loci for the swirling energies that pervade a battle fought amidst the Storm of Magic, but changing the way a Warhammer tabletop looks and interacts with your armies. With such things so crucial to your Storm of Magic games a new range of Warhammer scenery and Wizards will soon be released in time for you to wage cataclysmic battles.
Then there are the monsters. When the Winds of Magic blow with such strength, the fell creatures of the world gravitate towards the tempest, slithering from deep tunnels or emerging from mountain lairs.
With the new Expansion allowing you to use so many different creatures there are a whole host of new monstrous plastic kits on their way. Citadel's queen of creatures, Trish Carden, has spent the last few years in her own lair preparing for the new monsters to be unleashed upon the world and you can see two brief glimpses of what is to come below:
July is still a few months away; we are in the calm before the storm so now is the time to prepare. Bolster your forces, prepare your regiments and summon your wizards in time for the ultimate war. Keep checking White Dwarf and the website for updates, for when the storm hits nowhere will be safe!

...Just what fantasy needed at the moment... somthing to make magic even more powerful in the game! and by the looks of it an excuse to push new magical monsters and more terrain with special rules which most people will never bother to use. I would have much rather spent the summer playing one of the past campaigns like Storm of Chaos or Albion.
But thats the more cynical view. At least there is somthing for fantasy this summer, lets hope it doesnt come in the form of a expansion book costing more than £15 because if it is il give it a miss. I only hope my Dwarfs get somthing decent and are not sidelined for having no magic.
I don't like the idea of an expansion geared around uber-heavy magic (not really a fan of magic at all, which was the reason for me picking dwarfs as my first WHFB army!) but I am looking forward to seeing what the monstrous creatures and scenery are like- the last few 'big' WHFB sets i've seen such as the big spider thing and the TKs Sphinx have been immense.
Atleast its an expansion and can therefore be largely ignored ruleswise!
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
As far as I am aware none of the new monsters are new additions, as in they are already in the existing lists but are getting new models. The Carmine Dragon is one of the models to be released if my source is correct as is the Manticore (I am inclined to believe the picture on the E-mail is the manticore.).
A combined Gorgon/Cygor kit is also rumoured for Beasts of Chaos.

Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
At the worst, it will provide the monsters needed for players who use 'transformation of kadon', and some (hopefully) kickass looking new wizards for multiple armies! (*cough*darkelves/vamps*cough*)
I figure we'll get 2 'big' monster kits;
a) horned dragon/great firedrake
b) mountain chimera/feral manticore
Then hopefully we'll get about a half dozen new wizard sculpts for most armies beyond empire, HE's, skaven, O&G's & WE's who at least have 'oodles of choices already!
Plastic War Hydra Anyone?
The biggest thing i want to see is another list of magic items as the O&G recent release only had 8 items so if they continue this way i will be heavily disappointed unless they are going to release a whole smattering of common items and make it so each army only has a hand full of unique items plus the special character items i have always felt should not be allowed to be used by anyone other than that char (carstien ring).
as for the magic i would like to see 8 more spell trees available as magic was around before the empire but everything is based around the colleges of magic. as for the monster i feel that a great set back for the beastmen is these fantastic rules for monsters they don't have models for i would like to see GW fill in the gaps for everyone before creating new armies etc.
finally as much as dwarfs resist magic perhaps there could be more dwarf only anti-magic items released or a booklet with 'these items for this army only' sections for each army. not to say any of this will happen but that is what i would like to see, we shall see what i pressure out of my rep in the coming months and of course i will have the items a few weeks before release so i can answer questions when i know more and will post em on the FB page
I have had to delete the link as this is essentially advertising a page on another site. I've sent you a PM reference this.

Army-Win-Loss-Draw-Massacre/Dark Elves-18-2-0-15/Wood Elves-3-1-0-1/Lizardmen-2-2-0-1/Vampire Counts-2-3-1-1
The colleges of magic... If I remember correctly, there are eight colleges of magic because there are eight winds of magic and not the other way round. Also fun to note, the eight points on the Chaos star as all magic intrinsically flows from Chaos.
As for the expansion... Meh.
If it's anything like Planetstrike or Battle Missions, it will quickly fade away into non-space without my having to actually play it. I've enough trouble with the core magic lores without Teclis being able to throw "a whole range of Cataclysm spells to cast" into the ranks of my poor defenceless Khorne warriors. Was giving the little scamp a 1/3 chance of turning my Lord into an inanimate golden statue statue just not enough for you? Was someone at head office abused by the personification of Magic Resistance as a child and did they swear that day they would stop at nothing to make it completely useless?
I'd better get a nice shiny new Lore of KhorneSure, new models are always nice and GW is doing some stupendous things with plastic these days so I know they'll look fantastic, but wouldn't it be better for the game if you spent the effort in supporting the edition with compliant armybooks? An expansion isn't going to bring back all the Bretonnian and Wood Elf players that dropped out when your new edition invalidated their investment.Axe to Face (Signature Spell)
The wizard formally introduces the business end of a large piece of sharp steel to the face oh his enemy... with hilarious consequences
Target enemy unit currently in base contact, the magic phase immediately ends, skipping the shooting phase and allowing wizard's unit to attack as if it was the combat phase. After resolving this spell, the unit or the wizard may not attack again in its own combat phase
I'm sorry if I come across as anti-GeeDub, but I really want Fantasy to be as awesome as the miniatures and I don't see how a prematurely released expansion that totally alienates certain players is better for the growth of it than a Bretonnian army book.
I am admit, I never thought that gamesworkshop would just release minis for one spell in the Lore of the Wild, so I am guessing some other monsters are on their way. Maybe a new Hydra, a Manticore, A Beastman monster or two (Or maybe all three if Beastmen players are stupidly lucky.) I really do hate GWs trend to release a new codex and put up all these new units without minis.\
Back on topic. I wonder how utterly crazy Tzeentch Daemon armies be with this? Out of all the games I play, I find them the best when it comes to magic (But High Elves and Slann do put up a good fight for the title.)
