From Bell of Lost Souls. I've heard something about this, but nothing definite. Matt Ward is on this one by all accounts and it has been on the back boil for quite some time with Matt and others working on it between projects. All rumours indicate it being more akin to the 3rd chaos book with special characters for each legion.JvKOh, the birds are a tweet tweeting... Here's the latest scuttlebutt out there on what's coming down the pipe for Warhammer 40000...
So we all know this summer is Sisters of Battle in White Dwarf.
Next up is Necrons said to be in the November time slot (same as Dark Eldar last year)
Then Chaos Legions in the March 2012 time slot (same as the Grey Knights slot). This is said to not be a replacement for the current Chaos Space Marines book which may get some retconing and erratas to make it effectively the Chaos Renegade book come 6th Edition.
Yes I did mention 6th Edition - said to be hot on the heels of the Chaos Legion book, taking up next summer with the standard multi-month new edition release slot.
Hmmmm I must invent a time machine and travel to March 2012. This is a great find JvK! But if it's not a replacement for the current codex, what is it? Like an expansion so Chaos players can have an army like they were able to in the old codex where having an army built around a legion actually ment something?
One shall stand, and one shall fall.
Think of the current chaos spacemarine codex as being representative of the basic chaos spacemarine warband which can be a collection of different warriors from different legions, with a few daemons for good measure if needed. This book will focus on the original chaos legions in their own right so that each legion plays a little differently with respect to how they operate in the fluff. ie: Iron Warriors having more artillery and obliterators, Night Lords having more bikes and raptors.
Things like Cult Terminators are likely to make a return with the proviso that you can only take them in a dedicated cult list for example.
This pleases me. Maybe the Legions codex will be a sort of prototype for ideas they have in 6th edition, like each army getting a codex with specific armies, like Craftworlds, IG companies, etc.
Time to get this country out been near bankrupt and find me a job ASAP!!I want to play an iron warriors list DAMN IT!!!!!
On a side note:Way to go GW!Finaly a prayer got answered, keep it UP
EDIT:Mat Ward?!?!?!?And a lot of chaos marines wept with manly tears...
Give him more fodder so he will be buisy and keep his distance from the Darkangels Codex.
Also heres some rep JvK,you made my day!

Praise be to the Emperor!!
When I first heard about a Chaos Legions codex I was hopping it was going to be a Chaos IGs type codex (and written by Phil Kelley). Now it seems that the Chaos Space Marines will getting a bunch of powerful HQ characters that mostly don't fit in well with the rest of their army (I'm looking at you Blood Angels).
this is really good news but i hope that each chapter gets attributes that better suite them and all units in that faction benefit from them instead of individually, like the current chaos marks but built in to the units and better. for example:
Death guard- units get +1 toughness, fearless and feel no pain.
World eaters- units get +1 Strength and +1 Weapon Skill and Fleet but may not have special guns (meltas, plasmas, heavy bolters ect).
Thousand sons- units get 4+ invuln save and have hellfire rounds but have slow and purposefull and may not take special weapons as before (this should only apply to Rubrik marines if they decide to make them a seperate unit in the army where as the standard thousand sons only get a 5+ invuln save and standard weapons and movement...also bring back 2 Wound Terminators)
Emperors children- Units (including terminators) have some form of Combat Drugs and can replace standard guns with sonic weapons and benefit from +1 initiative.
Word Bearers- Units can Re roll failed leadership tests and reduce leadership of their opponents by 1.
Night lords- units have Night vision, Stealth and infiltrate rules as well as move through cover.
Iron Warriors- units have Bionics, can take more heavy weapons, terminators are troop choices and can take double the ammount of heavy support choices allowed.
Black legion- units are fearless and have no restrictions as to what units are allowed in the list (example, Death guard may not have Bikers but Black legion are not restricted like that in any way)
Alpha legion- units may start the game disguised as allied space marines to the opposing player like in one of the imperial armour books.
this is just what i hope they will do with the book and obviously there will be new units and weapons but this or something Similar would make a good codex.

I am thinking more or on the same line as you DAMOR.Rubric terminator models? As i said I need a job ASAP.Damn recesion....
Praise be to the Emperor!!
So we're getting a Codex before the new rules set again? Ugh ... I mean, I'm pumped for Legions, playing Death Guard and all, but we all know how that ride goes. It'll be great until the Codi post-6th start getting released, which doesn't take too long, and then we sit, jealous of all the newer rules that are actually in line with the base rulebook.Yes I did mention 6th Edition - said to be hot on the heels of the Chaos Legion book, taking up next summer with the standard multi-month new edition release slot.
But for Nurgle Termies, tanks, and a Typhus that might actually improve my army, I'll keep my hopes up.
What has me worried though is either what will happen to the renegades lets name it codex or how will they 'force' players to use one or the other. Will there be codex legions were you will be using the known legions only and the renegades that will essentially be the do it yourself warbands?
Or this will be the prelude/test for further legion specific codices?
Praise be to the Emperor!!
