With the Ultarsmurfs galavanting off to have tea parties with the Tau it would explain why DA's are seeming to take over...

Also regarding armies with no defence against Psykers, Necrons can take the Gloom Prysm for Canoptek Spyders that messes with enemy Psykers.

Whenever we play Fantasy, we always use the random Terrain rules. It's really not that bad and actually kind of fun. This is also coming from a Wood Elves player where half the woods might do something bad to me, even the one I deploy on my side of the field. Does it make much sense on the whole? Not really. Why can't my guys see that the river over there is actually a boiling mess or that it's not a river at all, but A TORRENT OF PURE MAGIC? Silly, but it's still kind of fun.

A 6+ chance to ignore Psyker powers is either medicore or garbage depending on what it actually is. If it's a normal save, great it's terrible. 90% of the damaging psyker powers don't have much in the way of AP, so all the Space Marines, Sisters, Necrons, Tau, even IG have better saves anyway. You still wouldn't get it against things like Wolf of the Wolf Wolf (JotWW) or similar abilities. Now, if it's a a straight 6+ to ignore a unit hit by a psyker power, that's a little different but still not that great. 6+ is amazingly unreliable. I'm a Sisters player and my whole army has a 6++ save, so trust me on that. It's never there when you really need it, but it's nice and kinda funny when you shrug off that melta shot like a boss. Hell, before we were stuffed into the back of a magazine, we had a 5+ chance to ignore psyker powers and it was still rather unreliable. A 6+ against them is nothing to cry home about.

Another thing to consider is that if that rumor is flying around, there are going to be MAJOR changes to how Psyker powers work, so we don't even have anything to really base how good or bad the 6+ will be in 6th. In 5th however, it's not exactly game breaking if someone's 180+ model gets a 1/6 chance to avoid being removed from the table by a 130 point model before it gets to do anything.

I kind of like the idea of Ultramarines helping out the Tau as their role of being a lost race that is "immune to the temptation of chaos". It gives the tau a "greater" role in the fluff and could make for a lot of cool scenarios. The tau fluff always seemed on the fringe of the 40k universe and mostly irrelevant to the bulk of the story. These rumors however would make their existence even more impacting and make them more appealing as an army.

It'll be nice for the Tau to not have everyone shouting at them or trying to eat them for a change. I'd like to believe most of these, although one of the allies options (BA and Crons) just doesn't make sense. The two only allied because of the Silent King classing the Nids as a much greater threat, which they do, the alliance was uneasy and untrustworthy at best, trying to make it a common thing is kind've kicking a dead horse to see whether you can get any more out of it. I don't see why anyone is complaining about a 6+ vs psychic powers. Firstly, it's a 6+, and secondly, you can't really argue that the LD test system really hampers psykers. Most dangerous Psykers are LD 9 or 10 anyway, so they don't fail very often to start with, and some of the Marine Psychic Powers just make people eat crap, so it's nice to not have to loose masses of troops with no saves, especially for DE, Crons, Tau etc.

I really don't like some of these new rumors. A random charge length? Does this mean a d6 roll everytime you want to charge? That would cripple close-combat armies. Unless they brought back the old consolidate into another close combat rule. Allies? I've never seen a game with allies that wasn't horribly imbalanced. Some of the armies cover each others weaknesses a little too well. Blood Angels and Imperial Guard in particular are devastating together. And I don't care what anyone says, I refuse to accept Necrons and Blood Angels being allies after their "fluke" alliance.

Necron Lord: "Hello my xenophobic, intollerant, religious fanatic friend. What to help me conquer and enslave the human race now that we've killed a few bugs together and shared some brews?"

    Blood Angels Captain: "Um, what?!?!"

Random charge length is fine. People were worried about that when 8th came out and it turned out to be great. The problem with a static charge length is that it gives assault armies too much of an advantage. Orks, for example, have an effective 20" charge range from a Trukk. 12" Truck move, 2" disembark, 6" charge, Factor in deployment space, and that's more than half the board on turn one. Shooting armies can't stand up to that. Random charge length at least gives armies that don't want to see close combat a bit of leeway and breathing room meaning instead of a guaranteed 20" threat they need to worry about, it might "only" be 15.

Another thing to consider is that we don't know what "random charge distance" means, yet. In Fantasy, armies have a set move distance and when they charge, they roll 2d6 and add their movement value. 40k doesn't have that, and I highly doubt that all charges will become 1d6 from a guaranteed 6. For all we know, you get a 3" move +1d6, or you straight roll 2d6 giving you an average of 7", which is better than before. We just don't know yet, so I wouldn't worry about it. I am looking forward to it, though.

Regarding that - the official GW doubles tournament allies matrix has tau and smurfs as 'bestest buddies forever'

Similarly the dark angels get along with the space wolves, and are loved by the templars. The templars in turn hate the sisters (naturally, given their history of fighting side by side) and are perfectly happy as allies to the eldar... wait WHAT????

Space wolves and DA is ok.It was nothing more than a friendly brawl really. After all the only man privy to the DA secret is a space wolf.

The templars with sisters now...Just who loves sisters nowdays?(yes i am sarcastic)
And come on now a little psychic power doesnt hurt now does it?

EDIT:Also grudging allies with the GK,the only psykers they accepted...
