I have a very hard time reading through that. Pretty much everything in that post states that eldar will be made more powerful as well as reducing a lot of point costs. Considering the eldar are already a powerful list this would mean that they pretty much become broken. GW seems intent on strengthening their weak units, doing nothing big to the strong ones, and then making a lot of units cheaper as well. So how is this a fix for the eldar?

Seems more like they are becoming the pinnacle of over-powered. But we'll wait and see, its just that for a list thats certainly not lacking already that seems like a lot of upgrades. Obviously we can't necessarily expect all that to be implimented but I seriously don't see how they can even input half of that stuff without dealing serious blows to certain eldar untis to balance out the equation.

Sabe one key thing is that they're talking about dropping the starcannon down to two shots instead of three. That's a solid kick in the pants for most of the popular eldar units. Also it sounds like the seer council will take some kind of a hit if you've been bothered by those.

Also (disclamer I haven't played much under 4th ed yet) we needed some beefing in the cc department after assaulting from a transport was shut down. Sure that rule applied to every army but they had either open top vehicles or bike/jetpack troops to fill the void. As it is our jetpack/bike troops are pretty weak in cc (have you ever even seen a shining spear model on a tabletop?).

We're also half losing the avatar as it's now a special character

It's about time too. The starcannon is the single most ridiculously overpowered/underpriced weapon in the entire game; especially in the hands of USF. One of the players at my local store has what we call "The Marine Melter" army. It has so many starcannons (Many of them dual mounted on war walkers) that it can vaporize two ten man marine squads per turn.... and I've seen it happen.

Phil Kelly has never written anything balanced for Eldar in his life. The current Eldar codex is so broken that half the units are incredibly overpowered and the other half are completely useless to even bother fielding. There is no middle ground at all. Not to mention the USF list is probably the most broken list in the whole game right now.

He did a good job with the Tyranid rewrite. Lets just hope he doesn't screw the pooch on yet another Eldar rewrite.
Yes, I have hopes for Phill.

No more annyoing Gav Thorpe. I really don't like him.

One thing that worries me about these rumours (beside no plastic Wraithguard) is the mention of the humble Guardians role being stripped back.
Now, I play with an Ulthwe army. I have nigh on 60 Guardians.
If their role is stripped back, what the hell becomes of all this plastic?
What, should I re-paint them all blue, seeing as Dire Avengers are apparently stepping up to the plate?
And as for the Avatar becoming a Special Character, thats a huge kick between the legs.
Although a newer and biggewr model sounds mighty fine.
I would like to be able to use it though, as we don't use special characters in my gaming group.
Hurry up and bring that codex out so we can end the umming and ahhing about it all.

The starcannon becmoing just good instead of awesome doesn't really outstrip all the benefits that could very well be implemented. A limit on seer councils? So what, now they aren't as broken, but still deadly. The Avatar is a special char? So what, what difference does that make in 4th edition? None? Thats what I thought. And he's getting a lot toughter.

All together what I'm saying is a lot is being upgraded whilst very little is being downgraded. Sure some things are but even the downgraded versions of those things are still above par.

Also, concerning assault I don't see the problem. Banshees are strong and they fleet, which means they aren't slow. Seer councils can take high T things, even if they have a decent save. Scorpions are strong, though i'll admit they aren't fast. Swooping hawks overall suck but an exarch with the right equipment can be just as devastating as a normal assault squad from other armies.

Thing is the eldar are already pushing unbalanced and with only a few drawbacks and a lot of upgrades to previously crappy units the whole codex is going to be one big broken mess unless the eldar pay premium points for what their getting, which it appears they won't be.

Okay, explain to me how a starcannon is somehow worse than a tac marine with a plasma cannon that can potentially hit something like 6 targets, hits on 3s and gets it for about half the points cost? It gets used a lot because when facing MEQ, it's practically all we have. Dropping it to 2 shots per turn is just retarded and a poor way to pull people away from what is a perfectly balanced weapon that gets abused because reapers are currently ass.

    Not impressed.
