i love the skaven race in fantasy. i was thinking that it would be awesome to have them as a 40k race.what do you all think of this???
I think a skaven-esque race exists in the fluff, I think they're called 'Hrud' or something
Life is too serious to be taken seriously
The race is called the Hrud, and no one really has any clue what they do/ing.
Yup, H'rud = space skaven. Not much known about them, but that will soon be fixed... heh heh...

Keep in mind that at one point GW intended to actually link 40k and Fantasy together through the fluff. Word was they were going to say the Warhammer Fantasy world was a bizarre experiment on a planet within the Eye of Terror inhabited by all of the galaxy's primary races; they were also going to make Sigmar one of the two lost Primarchs.Originally Posted by reaperofsquirrels
But that was a long time ago now, and since GW abandoned the idea of linking the two worlds (a decision for which I for one am VERY grateful), they have tried to separate the two games as much as possible.
Introducing Skaven or Dwarfs in space would be silly and counter-productive to GW's goals at this point, fluffwise. Likewise, I don't think it would be a good idea to bring the Tau or the Tyranids to the fantasy scene...it would just be a mess. The two systems are great as their own separate entities, in my opinion, and anything that each game has that distinguishes it from the other game is to be celebrated, not copied.
If and when new races are released for each game, I would like to see GW pursue the path they took when they released the Ogre Kingdoms - namely, introducing new races specific to the game and the world in which they are released.
As for new armies, I think GW will take its time and focus on updating each of the existing armies for both games and bring them up to speed on the new editions of the game. After all is said and done, oh, say, in 2008 or so, they may invent some new armies.
I know there is a lot of buzz about possibly introducing a Grand Army of Cathay, or possibly even re-doing Chaos Dwarfs (I think they would be cool if redone). There is still a sizable chunk of the Warhammer Fantasy world that hasn't been fleshed out yet - specifically, the lands to the East of the Worlds Edge Mountains. As for new armies/races in 40k, there is always talk of the Ordo Xenos or Alien Hunters, but really, the sky is the limit. They can always do a new and off-the-wall alien race by introducing a fledgling new empire such as the Tau, re-awakening an old race a la the Necrons, or have an extra-galactic or extra-dimensional invasion in the same vein as the Tyranids.
I really want to see the two games remain more independant of one another.
But all these facts aside...what would make space skaven play differently from the other horde armies? How would they be distinct? Personally, I think a space skaven army could be well represented using the IG codex.
Just my .02: there's no point in creating a new race unless it will be distinct.
When you can't run, you crawl. And when you can't crawl, find someone to carry you.
personally i want to see a army brought out that you can throw some slaves to cc in and blast them all with massive fire from another squad.
I didn't think the Hrud were particularly Skavenesque. They may be a Hidden Race of Under Dwellers but the best resource on them -Xenology- really doesn't hint at anything particularly ratty or skaveny. Space Skaven has been bandied about for years but nothing has come of it. I'd be surprised if anything appeared in the next 5 years.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
