Welcome to Librarium Online!
I know already of WAR online of course, but at the store I work I was talking to a customer and he said there were plans of an online version of the games planned? I'm not talking about another shooter or MMO but what he was talking about was literally THE WH tabletop game, but played online, similar to how Magic: The Gathering has an online version.
A pretty rough-cut rumor but nonetheless this idea would please me very much. I wouldn't drop the real thing entirely for it, but I'd sure get to play alot more of the game than currently I do.
Again, a very rough rumor... so don't kick the messenger in the groin.
Or you might have gotten it confused with:
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos
Which is coming out soon, it is an RTS game.
An online version of Warhammer 40k would probably be much cheaper, but it would take most of the fun out of the game. Part of what makes it so enjoyable is actually customizing your own models and using the miniatures themselves. An online version might be useful to test out tactics, but I wouldn't take it over the tabletop version.

GW would never release a game that was a pure copy of the tabletop game, but online. It would kill their biggest money-maker.

also it wouldn't have to be a big money killer for GW, they could do what wizards did with MTG, which is you have to buy the online models to play with them similarly to how wizards MTG online has you buying the online cards.
not that i'm saying that makes it more likely that it's happening (i don't think it is but it's an interesting rumor nonetheless), but just saying that's a moot argument.
