Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have a friend who apparently has a cousin who works inside Games Workshop. Apparently they are bringing out a AM codex. Can anyone verify that? i need confirmation!
I'm not saying it ain't possible, i am saying that this is hardly solid.
I've not heard of a AM-codex, it would be cool but i fear it's unlikely as the current IG codex would be too much the same thing, perhaps FW will do one though.
It sounds like a natural progression to me. Especially if the void dragon does end up being inside mars. In fact, a long time ago I downloaded a .PDF of an adeptus mechanicus codex. Obviously it's not official but it does look cool and provides some food for thought. I'll just do a quick run through of the units it had...
One thing that leaps out straight away is that all weapons taken from the armoury automatically count as master-crafted! That's pretty awesome.
Tech-priest Lord: Has power armour and a mastercrafted bolt pistol. has the option of taking a hover disk or an imperial jetbike (I guess this is pretty old) as well as a bodyguard of servitors.
Tech priest Engineer: Much like the lord but can repair vehicles like a techmarine.
Electro priests: Have weapons that double their strength and ignore armour saves but that don't count as power fists.
Techmarine Apprentice: Like a cheap version of a techmarine. Has a specific rule that says it an't take a bike.
Robot Cohort: 3-5 in the unit. All of which can take heavy/special weapons, also have the option of swapping their close combat arm with a storm bolter or alternatively, swapping their ranged arm with a dreadnought close combat weapon(!) Fearless
Tech-guard: Guardsmen with a 4+ save...
Servitors: Come in two varieties, ranged servitors and close combat servitors. Fearless.
Machine Cultists: Even worse than a guardsman. 5 points each.
Tech Guard Sentinal squadron: Sentinals
Tech Guard Land speeder squadron: Land speeders
Land Raider: It's a land raider...
Rapier Laser destroyer: Support weapon, 2 servitor crewmen. 36" strength 9, AP 1, Assault 1.
Mole Mortar: Heavy ordnanace support weapon, 2 servitor crewmen.
Thudd Gun: Support weapon, 2 servitor crewmen. 2 + D3 small blasts.
Conversion Beamer: Support weapon, 2 servitor crewmen. This ones pretty strange. It's to-hit roll is based on the targets toughness (so terminators would be hit on a 2+). Strength value = toughness of target, so always wounds on a 4+, no armour save allowed. Against tanks it glances on a d6 roll of 2-4 and penetrates on a 5-6.
Well that ought to be something to think about for now. I would personally love to see an official adeptus mechanicus codex so I really hope this rumor is true.
"You challenge me knowing that I am Xiahou Dun!?"
Personally i dont think its very solid either. But i do hope that its true! i think i remember hearing on a forum that the whole GW really want to make one, and will once they have the time. whatdya think of that?
I think the best likleyhood of us getting a mecanicus list is for something in one of the future Imperial Armour books. Possibly the siege of Vraks vol 2 will contain a techguard IG variant list with more AM stuff available but basically still Imperial guard. This would be simmilar to the renagades list in IA5.
Forgeworld lists however depend on the miniatures not the otherway round. If Forgeworld wants to design loads of tech guard, AM machines and characters then we could expect a whole IA book devoted to them (and their opponent in a particular campaign). If they only make the odd character and a few IG resin conversion sets then I would only expect a few doctrines and wargear items to tac on to the existing IG codex.
BUT, in white dwarf a design team member says that he would love to do a mechanicus army, but there never is enougth time. Maybe theyve found time?!?
sounds like absolute tosh to me, of course your friends's poodles, cousins, sisters, aunts pet GW person, if he cant confirm it, internet boards are bound to be a reliable source ????
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Hey! not everything is a lie! besides, its a nice thought. and i do think its absolute tosh as well, even though i really want a AM codex

I think this is another wish rumor. would it be cool to have a custom list and models? yep. are there existing lists that can be used in a 'Counts as' fashion and models for great modded armies? yep.
I think there are several viable armies already that CAN be used to represent Ad Mech.
you COULD use: Guard, WitchHunters, possibly even Chaos, Lost and the Damned lists comes to mind...
use those for your list rules, and mod existing models. Cadians with weapon upgrades, and shiny bits, a bunch of servitors, or cyber cherubs...
ooh. I'm starting to wish I had the time and money to mod this up now....
