Does anyone else feel they need to be redone pronto? I mean,they were one of the first codex's to come out. Any idiot can see the races got steadily more powerful as the edition went on(who remembers when a wraithlords T8 was cheesy. Now we have a freaking god model with T8 5W and a 4+ invuln.). The craftworld armies can be played either one of two ways:
a.the fun way
b.the take advantage of switched around unit placements(dark reapers as troops? hmmmm) and max out on cheesy upgrades.
Starcannons need to be redone. BIG time. The starcannon is THE ideal weapon if you think about it. It has high strength,low ap,long range,and 3 shots. What exactly is this thing NOT supposed to kill besides tanks?And i can take ungodly amounts of them too. 3 warwalkers 4 gaurdian squads,and 2 tanks. Thats in no way high points cost for their uses(compared to say,maxing out on HE magic),and i have 12 starcannons in the army. If i have a farseer,half of them get rerolls to hit. Thats 36 shots a turn. I say,make them Heavy2 instead of 3,and up the strength 1. Or downsize the strength one and keep the heavy3. But as it is right now,despite missle launchers and scatter lasers being really cool,3 BL's and 7 SC's are just plain better in every aspect.
And now,finnaly,we get to the most obvious things to be redone. Lets take a look at shuriken catapults shall we? A gaurdian squads job is to shoot(the ones w/ catapults anyways). Most assult units can move more than 12" a turn(hourmagaunts,assult marines,DE witches). So tell me something. Why is a short ranged high powered gun suited for quick firefights and rapid assults on our defensivly made gaurdians? Let me give you a senarioE w/ shuriken catapults,Eldar w/ splinters. Obviously not with those names. But hey,that sounds good doesnt it? The DE get hard hitting power ideal for use after unloading from a transport,the gaurdians get a decent range. As it is,i use a 20 man gaurdian squad purely so that the starcannon doesnt die. In the past 10 games i have played,the shurikens have fired off 2-3 times tops. Can you imagine if devestators only fired 2-3 times tops in 10 games?
Next comes swooping hawks. I dont know where to begin. Give these guys catapults,lasblasters to gaurdians. How cool would that be? I mean,hell,that would be downright effecient at doing their job. The idea of swooping hawks manuevering and harrassing the enemy just doesnt work when every heavy bolter starcannon disintegrater or ordinance template is in range. I say make them an assult unit,or make them a tank busting unit. If they had heavy weapon options and haywire grenades,i might use them. As it is your paying 21 points for a T3 4+ save shooting dude who shoots 2 lasgun bolts a turn. Somehow im not impressed,and lets face it,these guys have kickass fluff and awsome miniatures.
Warp spiders are also rather,well,bad. Again,a close range shooting unit with a high cost and relativly low damage dealing capacity. And the kicker of these units is,the exarches. A warp spider or swooping hawk exarch is a combat monster,more so than any other aspect squad. +2 attacks when charging and 3 base no armour saves,or 4 power weapon attacks with continual hits? Awsome. So why are they in shooty squads that have no place in combat? Finnaly,the avatar. Now,as he is right now,no complaints. He is very good at keeping gaurdians from running,taking down tough opponents to a degree,and such. But i mean....freaking come on. A C'tan is so much more godly i wont make a ratio,and as opposed to greater demons or even just good combat HQ's,hes not that good. Come on,khaine freaking took on slannesh one on one,every other god was just slaughtered outright by slannesh. Couldnt we get something just a bit more...fluffy,with him being the incarnation of the god of war? If anyone has anything else to add,feel free. As an eldar player of 4 years,returning to the hobby,i just needed to get this off my chest.
It's all right calm down the eldar like the space marines like the necrons are not too powerful everyone has a rant about who is too powerful all the time now calm down.

I agree totally with what Amroth said. Alot of the Eldar units are mix/matched in their focus the CC mosters are commanding shooty squads and the Avatar is no-longer a alone in his awesome stats, now he is just mediocre!?!?!
However the Eldar do NOT need a redo, just some tweaking. Move some of the wargear and exarch abilities around to match up to the Exarch's purpose. As it stands now many of them are either jacks-of-all-trades/masters-of-none or are very well thought out but commanding the wrong squad type.
Consider the possabilities.......
HB Exarches with Surprise Assault
*Falls limply the the floor drools maniacly while writhing in exstacy*
SS Exarches with Withdraw
*Cracks knuckles prepares to maul another Ork mob*

Sadly enough i agree that Eldar need to be revamped. I have heard that a new codex for the Eldar is due right after the Space Marines new codex which is seemingly first to be updated. I'm curious of what will take Eldrad Ulthran place as The Big Dude.
I was wondering what would replace Eldrad as well.

Q) Why are the Exarchs so much better in comabtr than their squads?
A) They LIVE FOR WAR. they are the shining example's among the eldar of the craft of WAR. They, simply put are MUCH, MUCH, better at it than their troops. And..an example...
EX: Swooping hawk Exarch with Web of Skulls and Sustained assault...I forgetm I thinkt he number of attacks he can get tops out at like...43? WOW duh, I know! Lets make all his guys better at close comabt too sowe don't even have to THINK about strategy anymore, Just drop them in and waste anotehr unit REGARDLESS Of what it is.
Q) Why do DE get a better weapon?
A) Would you like ot gett eh DE's drawbacks as well? Woo wow, look we're tough like the IG. We have ONE UNIT that has better than a 5+ save! WOOOO! Our TANKS..dont get all the Uberhollow, fast moving, flechetes, prism matrix thingies that make an APC harder to drop than a C'Tan!
Q) Why don't our CC Guardians get to move twelve inches?
A) BEcause your Swooping Hawks, and Wap Spiders do!

A) What's that...they get to deepstrike NO MATTER WHAT? What's that? They get to Bomb the BEJEEZUS out of you as they do it? Damn...that DOESN'T suck.
Q) Avatar is mediocre?
A) Your Avater has better stats than a bloodthirster as far as Close Combat. As for the C'tan, They ARE gods. Your avatar is what's LEFT of your god..PART of it spread out through all his Avatars. BUT..mayhaps an added point of TOughness since he's metal..or anotehr wound since..well' he has no organs would make hima better stand out Eldar thingy. So I agree with you...A little there.
Q) Two ways to play the Eldar, "Fun way Vs. Cheese way"
A) You think it's EASY to play Biel-Tan against a Horde army? OR even an army with so many more Base troops JUST as tough? (Necron, SM,CSM). Or the Tau where they not only get to outnumber you, but get FAR better long distance weapons? I think you should not worry so much about how someone else likes to play and not deem it 'Cheese' so quickly.
So..in hindsight, let me offer my opinion...
I think that the Eldar could use a bit more attention. But, Bottom line here is...eldar are a THINKING Man, or woma's army. They have CC masters int heir squad so they don't get wasted in it right off the bat. YOu have to THINK aboutyour strategy when you play them, nto just throw them out there.
Between the EXTRAORDINARY abilities of the Exarchs, the OBSCENE Toughness/wounds/Weapons of the Wraithlords, SPEED of the vehicle's and your Swooping Hawks, and Wrapspiders, The Option to take DA, SG, GD, Or Rangers as troop choices, The MAD psychic power(Better than the rest of the races put together, dont get me started on sorcero's and librarians) AND the Augmentation abilities of yrou Warlocks and Farseers....The Eldar are all there. They have Everything you need to lay waste to an opposing army. Speed, Firepower, Psyker powers, CC monsters, Mad firepower, Obscenly hard to hit Vehicles...I would suggest that you, just liek everyone esle that complains about the armies strengthn and weaknesses take a better look at YOUR army, and what it Has and id good at, than whine that it doesnt have this or that from other armies, and if you dow ant to whine abotu wha tother armies have? Try taking alook at what those other armies DONT have. TRY playing as teh DE, just give it a try...You will MISS the Eldar ALOT!

all it takes to screw aspect warriors up is a shot from a vindicare assasin and a sqd of death company, if the exarch is dead they dont have much to stand on.
(after a few playtests this seems to work well)
and i dont think eldar are to strong at all, iv never had a problem against them.
and i really think guardians need more range caus they come close to my blood angels to be able to have any effect!!!!! "look its those beserk madmen that can tear us to pices if we get in range, lets get in range!!!"

Rumor has it that tyranids will be after SMs, the it's either orks or eldar.
And, more rumors, Elsar might have doctrines! There is a possibility that DE and Eldar will be fused into one codex. At the moment you have the option of playing overlysadistically evil DE or goody-two-shoes help the universe craftworld eldar. with thw introduction of doctrines all this will change, you can play something in between, good old arrogant evil eldar pirates.
There would for example, be a doctrine that gives your guardians +1 BS (like black guardians) and another wich makes you Saihm-han biker crazy, or another wich basically makes you DE, and then a wych army. The possibilities are endless. And since GW is going for doctrines on IG, SM, nids and orks, chances are eldar will have them too.
