Guide: How to make rubbled terrain

Hello, so I'm making this guide to show you how to make good looking rubbled terrain, and quickly.

For this guide I will be making a rubble pile.

Materials:
- 1/4" insulation foam
- Cheap acrylic paints: White, Brown, Black, and Grey
- Some white glue or wood glue
- Box cutter / x-acto knife
- Dry sand
- A large house brush
- Smaller brush
- Clippers
- Hot glue gun
- Old empty sprue
(Optional) a old blender or meat grinder.

Ok so the first step is to take your 1/4" foam.

Now use your boxcutter and cut about a 70 degree angle on all of the edges, do that on all of sides until it looks like this.

Now to make a few large pieces of rubble take some scrap blocks of foam and cut them in any way you find realistic, don't worry to much about it just make sure it looks random and a bit rough. Click here

Take your hot glue gun and glue the blocks on-top of the foam put a even spacing between them so models can move over them easily. After that coat the piece in a layer of white glue but exclude the blocks on-top it should look like this, before sanding and then after sanding.

Then like the second picture apply sand to it and shake off the excess. Now while your waiting for the glue to dry you need to make some rubble. First take your empty sprue and clip them into pieces like this.
You can take your old blender or meat grinder (you can pick one of these up at the flea market or a random second hand store pretty easy) and chuck the clipped up sprue in your blender or meat grinder and it the end product should look like this.

Pull out the white glue again and pour a fair amount right onto your piece (you should have basically a large blob of glue) and the areas you want to be rubbled: throw the rubble on and press it down gently into the glue and throw a bit of sand on it to cover the exposed glue and let it sit. Rubble goes on.

Now your finished constructing it, painting is simple take your black paint and base coat them whole thing. Basecoat

Take your grey and your large brush. Put the grey down on your pallet and saturate your brush with the paint, now take some paper towel and wipe just about almost all of the paint off, then do a heavy dry brush off the piece. For highlighting use a 3:1 mix of grey and white and do another even lighter dry brush over the whole thing. Grey + highlight.

Now to give a bit of contrast and colour to the piece take your brown paint and start at a high elevation and work your way down to one of the sides to give a natural flow to the mud.

Do the plastic sprue bits damage the blender at all?

Well the blender won't be suited for culinary use after that, I imagine it dulls the blades a bit.

A meat grinder you could find at any vintage store, or anywhere that sells second hand items, like the salvation army and such, I've been past a few stores that sell them but I am almost out of sprue, it would be a waste of money.

Use cat litter mabey? save you alot of trouble and some smells minty

Kitty litter I find actually does'nt work (it works for my kitty)

Because the kitty sand is made to absorb moisture it dries out the glue very quickly and starts to break off.

One way i've found that helps with a tutorial or guide is using this format:
name your pictures in steps
step01.jpg
step02.jpg

Then put down a picture and above or below it, describe the step.
i.e:

step02.jpg
Now on this second step I went ahead and blahblahblahblahblah..

Step 03.jpg
After you did above, now we blahblahblahblah.


etc.


Your paragraph style is perfectly fine also, just giving you an option of layout.

When GW did this they made a very important note...and I feel it bears repeating just in case...
