Default Iron Scenery question

I was speaking with shonuff today and I was thinking that maybe the next iron scenery should be entirely for new terrain makers, to give them a chance to compete at an even plane as gaunt and nuff both are above the standard as far as I believe.

Another thing I thought about was badges for the winners, like how there is "veteran" and "author" under our profiles, a "iron scenery champion" badge would be interesting to see as well as this thing sort of takes off.

And one last thing, with the poll for the TYPE of terrain maybe we should be a little more specific, say, "a piece of terrain from a planet that has returned from the warp" so it could be an ork shed that has been warped and covered in blight and plague, or as a recent question in the modelling forum, a "torture device".

SO what does everyone think of my ideas?

While i'll agree, this is a great idea, the LO terrain making community is too small for us to be excluding members already! although that would be an aweosme idea, last iron chef scenery we only had 3 people enter..

Maybe if more people where interested in terrain we could have different leagues like
'novice' 'intermediate' 'IRONCHEFOWNZORZ KING' etc. but that day is long away my dear duane!

This is an idea i like- as when more people see the badge they would come into the terrain section. so it kind of promotes scenery making whilst rewarding winners- i like that.

You're right! this would help bring the ideas and presentations into a smaller category, instead of having the broad, open ended categories we have now (toothpicks for example)

I think the small terrain community has a lot to think about, and thanks for having the courage to bring it to our attention! i'm on your side, the scenery section of LO deserves more attention, as it is as major part of gaming as it is fun!

Maybe one option, contingent on getting enough participants, would be to have Shonuff and Guant be available as advisors, to provide WIP feedback and suggestions to the new folks

Yeah thats also a good idea, I think shonuff was gunna talk to blackhat about the "badges" so we will just have to wait for that, but I am always sad that this side of the forum isn't that interesting, I think scenery is the best part of this hobby, making an army is one thing but making an entire planet is another

if there was a novice iron chef I'd stand a chance in it, but as it is, i'd only enter for the laugh of getting no votes...

It doesnt matter how many votes you obtain, look at gauss for example, he probably knew he wasnt going to win- but he still made something (which i really liked!) and put it in, iron chef isnt just about wining, it's also for those of us who wouldnt normally finish a project without some encouragement.

Exactly! Its about challenging yourself to finish something, like the tale of painters projects and things like that, its about pushing yourself to go above what you would normally do by slapping on some card and a dab of paint.

That link is flipping awesome and I have no idea how you did it, you must tell me how to get it into my sig. When it comes to me and Sho not taking place in the next one, then who else will? But true if I have to sit out a round for the sake of the little guy I will. And yes having something like veteran would be a good idea. Ill ask one of the mods Im friendly with about it.

And Alex said it perfectly, this thing is about friendly competition and showing others how you make cool things, NOT about winning.

perhaps we can get an ad on the front page? from one of the admins, who I'm sure support what we are trying to do here, and see if that helps up, if me you and shonuff all have the iron scenery link, it could work.

I'll see if I can make one in photoshop.

But what should it say? just "Iron Scenery" or "Iron Scenery Challenger" for anyone involved? or just a number of them?

Click the image to open in full size.Thats just one, I'm no wizz with links but I'll give it a shot.

And another,
