Default Priman Factory Fortress

I've been working on a short film project this year and part of that involved me designing and constructing miniatures to use in it.

I wrote a story that is a bit of a culmination of my favourite things; LOTR, 40k, mad max etc

One of my miniatures was built at 1:48 scale so its actually very usable for games of 40k. I thought i'd post some pics here so people can see what is possible when you spend insane amounts of time on models.

The race i made up that its built around is evil and very machine orientated. They build with what scrap they find or what they can make. Bit of an ork idea there, although i've made the model more life-like and realistic. Its based around New Zealand west coast mine structures. My story is a New Zealand story after all, just an alternate dimension.

You know what I love about this most? its not over-cluttered.
It's not an ork factory obviously cos its fairly clean and minimal junk lying around, the tower seems like it could stand up to a small beating (unlike ork buildings) and the shed roofs just remind me of the dear fallout 2 You got anything else to show us while you are at it?

All of the weathering is done very well, particularly like the woodwork, how much insane time did it take?

Pictures saved for inspiration.

Well i started designing it back in july. The idea evolved over 8 weeks with various parts collected. Actual construction took about 3 weeks working nearly every day for at least 3 hours solid, im guessing about 60 hours work.

The most painstaking part was painting and appyling each individual pressed aluminium iron sheet to the roof, not to mention pressing a tool in the back to simulate bolts.

It was fun though, and well worth the effort. I managed to win highly commended at my end of degree art exhibition.

Thanks for your praise. Its easy to overdo junk around the place so thats why its pretty sparse. all the good stuff is out back

I've got pics of a house made for the same project if you are interested. Its kinda elvish in style and is for the good guys in my story.

Excellent model! I love that elvish house too, did you use doormat on the roof? It looks very effective if you did.

Here are pics of the Acarnan house model. Its sortof elvish, but with a new zealand style to it.

Matus: It is a doormat. Its the best thing i could find at the time to represent thatch. I think it works. I was going to have to hand lay cut pieces of brush bristles otherwise, and that would not have been fun.

Good use of a front door mat, must weigh a ton!
Trees are well done, real twigs?
