Basing Orange Desert?

I'd like my bases to look orange/wastelandish, but I doubt I have the skill/time/patience to paint them individually, I'd imagine some glued rock + brown + a wash of something + orange/yellow highlights would work, but, I usually glue models to bases prior to painting, so that seems difficult.

If anyone has any advice or is aware of a product that might make this easier, i'd appreciate the tips. What i'm really going for is a deep red/orange, kindof like a martian landscape.
