Starting a swamp terrain set...pics inside

here is my first tree that is almost completed. I just started picking up some of the lotr models from GW. i think that a bunch of uruk-hai would look wicked cool marching through a marsh board. my next step is to get some reeds made and add some moss/foliage to the tree. heres the pics... c&c are encouraged.

The base looks nice and wet and swampy, did you varnish it to get it to shine?

I have wanted to trie twigs as trees, I think the one you chose needs a few more branches IMHO.

Thought about champering the base on the edges? help to stop minis falling over when they are standing on the edge.

I think a whole section of these would look good, got any skulls/bones to add, maybe stuck in the trees like warning signs.

I use a glue / vanish mixture for the shine. i toyed with using hot glue to make bubbles but it doesn't show up on my camera. i am not sure how to camper the edges. do i just trim on an angle. i just added some swamp reeds, and will add skulls for the next picture. thanks for the tips!!!

If you champer the edges (trim at an angle) I recommend testing the angle with one of your minis, if it can stand up and not fall over then you got the angle right, its something you need to do at the very start of the project.
What if the base material? I use a Stanley trimming plane (2 inch long 1 inch wide) that works great on MDF wood, something this size would be a 30 second job!
If its corrigated card then just a sharp blade and maybe masking tape to hide the holes in the card edge, or my fav would be plaster.

I have looked at lentils and wondered if they would make good bubbles for something like this, will try it one day,

The moss covered twigs you used this time look just right.

Not sure about the grey curly stuff, I would have thought a green "alive" colour or a brown "dead" colour would fit in better.
