Interest in the Iron Chef contest

There has been interest in resurrecting this scenery competition once more. I would like to gague how much before we go ahead, there isn't anything worse than having a fun project like this die on its feet. But first people might need a little bit of information as to what the Iron Chef contests are all about. If you have been on the forum for long enough you will see that we have a long running series of miniature painting contests (now going to be designated with the abbreviation of [LOPC] for future reference), and once upon a time we had something similar for the scenery forum. The contest runs for a period of time in which you build and paint a piece of scenery to fit in with a previously chosen theme. At the end they go into a thread and a winner is voted for by the members.

In itself, nothing special. However, where the Iron Chef name comes from, and how it differs from the painting contest is this: you get given an 'ingredient'. This ingredient is selected by the previous winner of the event, and MUST be included in the making of the scenery. In the past, the ingredient has been a material - e.g. plastic bottle, cardboard toilet roll.

So, now everyone knows what it is, here is the point of the thread.

    Do people want it?
How would you like the ingredient to be used? Ie, rather than a type of material, it could be something to include: ie tower. Or wheels etc.
How long do you think each 'round' needs to run for?

Sounds fun... but I can tell you now I would not be able to participate anytime soon. Maybe do something holiday themed like LOICS: Easter Egg (LO Iron Chief Scenery) or LOICS:[St. Paddy's Day item like clover, Whisky, Beer, Snakes, etc...] (note that's about then I think I could get in on the fun)

I for one would like see ICS come back.
As for time I think 6 weeks is a good middle ground. I have heard some say a month is not long enough, while I personally feel 2 months is too much time and allows me to slowly down to much.
As for the ingredient itself, I think it should be something used rather built.

6 weeks sounds good. Not sure if a material should be the same or the theme of the scenery. As long as it can be adapted for Orks, Tau, or Nids either is fine.

I'll enter for sure. 6 weeks is better than 1 month. As I've said elsewhere, the theme ingredient shouldn't be a building material because it's to limiting. Theme elements would be better. ie fire, statue, cage, ect

If I remember correctly we had basic criterior like

    wood
    bog roll
    box

Keep it simple if you want participation, the more criterior you throw into the mix the more people will drop out IMHO.

Themes like "easter" sound good but if people are like me they have a list of things they want to see on the table, easter is not one of them for me, themes might be too limiting especially for the first comp in years.

If you look at the activity in the Scenery area there is not a lot of terrain builders posting, not much chance of getting this running.

For theme, I was thinking something simple; for example a good one is: Barricade. A size is designated, say 8", and then people can make anything to be a barricade as long as it looks like one and is 8" long.

Do we have interest from four members then? I'd be happy to give it a whirl with 4+ people.

I'm in, and is it still "iron chef" and is the medal still up for grabs?

Agreed, I meant secret ingredient is an easter egg (or some random piece of holiday scrap that you have left over from a holiday like that) take Easter Egg and replace it with, coke can, 12" of 1/2" wire, a spoon, etc...
