Rep Power: 59 ![]() | ![]() I got bored on day after finishing some of my figures and decided to flock some of my figures, I was workin on my Raider when I thought of adding destroyed terrain. After fiddling around I thought about the pictures I've seen of crumbling walls/roads/etc... I figured I would try a shot at it. I decided to use the spare sprues I had to model out some walls of a traditional red-brick city, similar to that of the Old Town part of the city where I live. After some work I got this: ![]() I liked it, so I went on to create a few more pieces, including a flag pole: ![]() ![]()

thats a really cool idea and those pics look nice, I used sprues to make some wooden stake baricades for my lotr rohan army a while back and they turned out nicely as well

I have a load of sprues, although not as many as i did have, my wife got fed up with me and threw a load out. I was far from impressed. Anyway, my sprues, although have yet to do anything with, ahve been earmarked for buildings, and or a downed space craft. The builings consisf pretty much using the sprues as they are, gluing some together and using some plasticard as flooring and walls. And then destroying them. The downed space craft would be similar, but with the help of some heat, the sprues will take on a skeletal effect of the ship with cow and gate baby milk powder wrappers as the skin of the ship - it's a plastc/foil material, that is far stronger than foil, and not likely to tear easily. But like i said, they are both far from being realised as of yet - still building models that i had for christmas!!!

Dang that had to be REALLY time consuming... Glueing each small brick-part together like that. I admire your patience, I could never do that. Normally I just see sprues used as rubble... I did see one board that used sprues as rubble, but they also put it down as a sort of cobblestone for the streets (it was a 4x4 cityfight board). These are some awesome ideas, I really like how the walls turned out, and that downed space craft sounds amazing. Nice job.

Also, I assume everyone knows that you can stretch sprue out into long thin plastic filaments? If you get a small section maybe an inch long and put one end in a vice, then apply a blow torch to the middle of the sprue and pull the other end with some pliers you can further extrude the sprue as much as you like. The filaments make good whip aerials for vehicles or stems for plants or anything long and thin basically. Also good because its already polystyrene and so Polystyrene cement works directly on it when linking to other polystyrene kit parts. Safety warning, don't burn yourself or others with fire or hot things, don't trap your body or other people's bodies in vices or pliers whilst doing any of the above things. |

However stretching out the sprues like that is a good idea, I'll have to try it out.

i made some crude orc-looking barricades with sprues once, they didn't turn out too good, but i still use it, all i did was cut corners out and stacked them disorderly, then spiked some up and made them like spikes poking out to stop assaults and stuff like that
