Default Varnish Desert Board

I was making a 6'x4' kill team board recently .But as I was making it I realised that I did'nt have enough PVA to finish it. So I looked around in my garage and spotted a tin of varnish. It turns out that you can make great deserts with varnish and sand!
Varnish's come in a range of shade's which is great because it gives colour and tone to the board without having to paint it. I find 'saddolin natur'(no spelling mistake) gives a very nice colour, but feel free to experiment. Also varnish makes the sand stick a lot better then PVA.
So find some varnish with a colour you are happy and follow these steps.

1)-Apply varnish to board. (not to thin not to thick.)

2)-Apply layer of sand. ( Fine sand works best.)

3)-optional-Once this is dry mix up a batch of varnish mixed with meths so that its fairly thin and wash like and apply it thinly. (Experiment with this first because while it gives good results it can go horribly wrong.)

This effect can be used to make the following boards ashwaste, martian, deadworld and a whole range of deserts at a very low cost very fast.

Sounds like a very good idea. I may try it. - Thanks Truesight!
Perhaps you could provide us with some pictures of your desert board?

Sorry I won't be around for the next few weeks and I lent my digital camera to a friend. I'll get back to you. Sorry.
