    sounds like a great plan, but a bit hard to realise i gues.

    ok, here's a idee that might be stupid, but i give it any way;
    why don't u use a magnet like they use on scrap yards ant so, to lift cars.
    nice and powerfull, it should provide enough lift i gues.

    u could try and use real powerful magnets at each corner of the tabel, downside is that you'd have to ballance the table exactly, so it dousn't go a wol, ore tople over.

    Yeah that could work... if you feel like steel reinforcing the floor on your gaming room, fancy working out an enourmous bit to be able to move the thing.

    Other than that it would work fine.

    That's not even real floating terrain.
    But I do like the look of it.

    Yeah, but DS, you're forgetting one thing about electromagnets.

    Creating a powerful enough field larger than about 1" wide requires DC voltage in excess of 200 Volts at roughly 60 Amps, which is more than I'd suggest for anyone who hasn't had any experience with electronics, or high voltage. Let's just say it's enough to put a cramp in your day.

    A small electromagnet may be powerful enough to pick up a few paperclips, but not powerful enough to levetate your terrain, models, and body weight should you accidentally put too much force on the terrain.

    I'd still say stick with the rare earth magnets, you can use a toroid for the base, which leaves a small enough gap in the field to allow a place for a spherical magnet to rest, you couldn't make one that was too top heavy, so it would only be used to float large, wide terrain, with enough magnets to balance. If you get the strongest kind (about $1 for each magnet) and put them 1 every 6 square inches, you figure it'd cost roughly $64 to create the floating terrain on a 4x4 board.

    Unless my calculations are off, you'd need 32 magnets for the terrain, and 32 for the base. They'd hover roughly 2-3" off the table, and if placed properly, wouldn't move at all. You'd just have to test the fields beforehand, and glue them into place. The magnets themselves would hold there charge for about 4-6 years before losing their hovering capabilities, so it'd last enough time.
    You can't move the furniture anymore
    And I'm not gonna trip and fall

    Sounds really cool but to hard to make for the average person. You would have to really dedicated to the table to build it. I would just use clear plastic aerial bases but thats just me.
