I am thinking of making "floating" terrain. This will be fore a messed up gravity world. I have several fairly powerful magnets, and i was going to set it up so it has the same polarity facing the same poarity. Then i would use fishing line (or something else thats nearly invisble) to attack it to a base, terefore makinh it look floating with any support. What do you think, and do you have any ideas?

i would first like to say I like the Idea of a world where the gravity is messed up, but I do not understand why you need magnets? it seems to me rather un realiable ( but then a gain I no very little about magnets) .

but if it works, it should be cool, please post pics.

ps, what is this for :w

well unless you have anti gravity pads, you need magnets to float things. This is because if you want a free floating patform (which i want) then you need magnet to make it float with out support. you can make thing float by hanging them down from things, but thats not that intresting. And i spent a lon time last night, making it. U need to use magets set in a square fromation with a hole in the middle, then stick the magnet to make the thiing float above the hole. then it works. But it takes a very long time so i am thinkg of looking for an alternitive solution.

Okay, this would work IF!... and this is a big if, the entire base of the terrain was a magnet, one solid magnet, no breaks anywhere.

If the magnetic field is off in it's curvature, even so much as a fraction, the second you put a miniature on top of one that's over the curve the top terrain will slip, and actually shoot, hitting a couple others fields, probably throwing it all out of wack.

Magnets are very picky. And it's really hard to get a sheet supermagnet.

If you want to test it out, take to bar magnets, then tilt one side, if it's powerful enough (which it would need to be to make it so much as levitate a terrain piece) it should slip out of your hands.

I like the idea, sounds too technical and expensive for me though, sounds like the terrain in Outland in Warcraft 3 frozen throne.

It could be done however, if you do want to do this, what you can do, make each terrain have a high power fan on each corner, and have a gyro stabalizer on each center.

Or just use clear plastic rods to hold it up at the center, that way you can still alter what it looks like.

HMMM this is also giving me another Idea.

A whole new army.

The warp warriors.

Gotta keep this one active.

Ok you would need the entire base a magnet, and the floating part would need to be tied town some how, becuase of how magnets r. What they try to do is flip over to get the opposite pole facing down. So you need it tied down just right. I have decided it will be much easier to by on of those packs of floating bases (the large ones) and support it like that.

If you were insitant on making a magnet thing(or something with no means of support that were visible) than it would actually be fairly difficult to make (unless you knew what you wre doing) and it would be somewhat expensive. but you would have to make sure that whatever terrain yo made to "float" would need to be made of styrofoam or cardboard, or some other extremely ligthweight material
