Rep Power: 0 ![]() | I bought 3 2'X4' pieces of pegboard for about $3.50 each, and a bag of plastic zip ties for about $10. Place the peg boards side by side and zip tie in two places and you have a double folding 4'X6' table top. I place it on top of 4 T.V. trays and it works well. Definitely not strong enough to sit on, but it should hold all your 40k needs. |

Neat idea! I like the idea of adding fabric to the top, although I wouldn't go with felt, which is very stretchy and not condusive to taking paints and other art media. I would think a green canvas or some stronger fabric would not only reinforce the "hinge", but be easier to decorate should you so desire. =) Ooor, burlap! Just found some 58" wide burlap in green, tan, brown etc. from fabric.com for pretty cheap...although the grain may not be good as it may be easier to guess distances...dunno, just an idea, hehe. |

Hey Romulus. Sorry I missed your post about hinges from home depot or lowe's. I've not looked at their hinges recently, but I'm bound to be at one of the stores within a week. I'll let you know if I see something that will work. Just didn't want you to think I blew you off.

A stupid simple solution to the duct tape problem is several (3 or 4) small to meduim door hindges. But i know this door are hollow core so to increase their hold ability not only screw them to the doors but also glue them. Use a heavy duty glue too. Though this is a great idea and I plan on getting the doors in a weekend or two

granted it will fold like a divider but piano hinges are cheap/easy to use and if you took a router to hide the pin part or even left the space where the hinge is on the one that will be top side you will still have a smooth surface. just a little wood filer and the screw holes will be flushed out. I don't host a lot of gaming at my place so I've gone the 2" pink foam route with a suitable table cloth over the top. My friend Vern on the other hand; instead of getting the interior hollow-core doors Romulus described, got a large closet door that is just about 48x72 all by itself. I believe it is a little long in one of the directions but close enough not to cause any problems. He's spoken of painting or texturing it but hasn't yet. It is light and sturdy but obviously takes up a little more room to store than Romulus' folding version. Vern too stores his table on the porch, hopefully it won't get stolen! <grin> Those Brass cylinder hinges look awesome! I would think that if there was a gap that you could sink them deeper into your door edges to compensate. As I've read through this forum thread it sounds hopeless but I'll take a look for the cylinder hinges at Home Depot when I go during my lunch errands. Good luck, Jon

Thanks for bumping this. I went on vacation and forgot completely about my hunt through Home Depot and Lowe's. Lowe's was pretty much clueless and home depot said I would have to go to specialist store. But someone else may actually have someone competent at there local store(s). Sorry I forgot to reply

if you end up texturing and painting that huge door, if you want a sturdy finish, check out the stone paints, or sometimes they are called "fleck coat" by plasticote. a friend used it for a sand world, and used the Sante fe color, and he also bought the black granite finish for a lava waste ash world and worked well. the spray is expensive but your giving a durable finish and a rough texture that is not as rough as sand.
