    Space Hulk Table

I wanted to make a Space Hulk table, mildly based on the interior of the Death Star and Star Destroyers... so I started. The walls are going to be a half-inch thick 4 inches tall. It's modular so I can switch it up when the configuration gets boring.

I have half of the 1'x1' rooms cut out. I was originally going to put halls inbetween them, but I decided I liked this better, it makes it harder to get around.

That's so you can see the size. Most of the doors and hallways are 3 inches wide. I'm going to save pieces I cut out of the doorways so I can put them back in and close off different routes. I'm thinking this board will be excellent for kill-teams and infantry battles, but tanks and such definately won't fit. Anyway, just thought I'd share it with you.

I'VE PROBALY USED THAT PENCIL BEFORE

...Hah. So you actually did this. Looks nice so far, can't wait to play on it XD

Edit: Oh yeah, I'm still thinking you should have like 3 sections in a row that can make the detention hall, and not have the 3" wide doorways... like a really long hallway, you know. Be a great fire lane.

Well, look at the block farthest to the left. It's the beginning of that. There'll be a few of those in a row, and the hallway in that area is only 3 inches wide, so it won't seem like there are doorways.

    Can't wait to play it....XD

I think it would just be best ot outlaw most vehicles since it's an indoor thing ('cept dreadies of course!).

Makes me think some assault termies might be a good investment....

Instead of just all hallways, you should make certain rooms like control rooms (Twice per game a side may use it to move the ship, thus making reserves harder to come in(as they are coming from pods launched into the ship, sorry for double parenthesis). All reserve rolls are reduced by 1 for that turn), power generator (When destroyed the whole board becomes difficult terrain for two turns, and after the two turns, the ship falls from space, leaving two turns left no matter what).

Just some ideas to make it feel more like a ship, not some base with endless corridors.

    OK bits and pieces:

First off- fantastic idea, being toying with the same one myself.

    now bits:
    1. Many years ago (rogue trader days) GW produced a box called Cityblock or megablock cant recall which, which comprised paper floorplans, modular, similar to what you have, card board cutout decor (desks, tables, chairs, pot plants etc) and some ruels for using it withboth 40K and Judge dredd the RPG, my experiances with this are what leads to the rest of my comments below
    2. The Space hulk scenery did not comprise anything like what you are doin, it was essentailly a jigsaw which did not cover all the floor, it had huge gaps, long corridors etc. This was much better
    3. the problem is have you ever been in a building with a floor plan as you have laid out? I have had a varried life and I havent, buildings have a purpose, walls are not put up randomly, where are the toilets? is it industrial? a hab building? a barracks? a ship? give it some purpose
    4. if you make it modular then you can make it all purposes, but you need to look how you have drawn the walls
    5. you can do this quickly and relatively cheaply using drain pipes for coridors and your wood for rooms

that may sound a little rough and it is suggesting almost an entire rethink, which is harsh because your idea and what you have put into it is fantastic, but this kind of floor plan rapidly became bboring to a teenager twentyodd years ago, and it would be a shame for this to go the same way
Everything you have been told is a lie!

The walls aren't random, different rooms do have panels on the walls. I don't want big empty things though, besides the hangars and stuff, because I want it to be hard to get around. I'm putting these on the walls.

As long as dreadnought bases are less than 3 inches wide, they will fit. The ideas with the difficult terrain and stuff are good, but I don't think I'd want every match to be like that, because I don't like games with turn limits.

I'm putting this on to show that the rooms aren't random. It'll be more obvious when there's stuff on the walls.

Well, if you make it modular, than you can always have a different game even with the different rooms. Just an idea so its not just boring room after room.

It is modular...It has a full peice of plywood on the bottom, and then another cut up sheet on top...

Hmm, in your labled picture there the corridor looks exactly like the hanger just below it, and all the rooms have the same basic shape just with a few interior walls thrown in (I think this may be part of what Cheredanine was getting at). For the coridor especially why not wall off more space so that you have a cross with 3 inch wide bars (more coridor like, less room like); there's nothing saying you have to use the entire space on a tile, right? If you didn't want to lose the space you could maybe add small (single model sized) doors to the sectioned off corners and make them crew quarters, storage rooms, etc.

Looks like it'll be great to play on.
