    First game with Sisters

So, today I played my first game using the Sisters of Battle, a small 500 point affair with my friend playing GK. I didn't have all of the models I needed, so I filled the squads out with some Space Marines and used Space Marine Rhinos, since I haven't converted them yet. This is the list I used.

    Saint Celestine

Battle Sister Squad with 2 meltaguns, VSS with combi-plasma and Storm Bolter:

Overall, I was impressed with the Sisters, they made a strong showing. The game was Annihilation, and I ended up tabling my friend on turn 4. I noticed that once I got into rapid fire range I was able to really tear his squads to pieces, and Celestine was able to wipe out four marines in one charge before being chopped down by a force weapon....Only to stand back up and kill another three next turn. Overall, a really great experience, and I really like how the army plays (of course with only troops it wasn't TOO exciting). Definitely going to expand the army now, so any help in doing that would be appreciated. I know I'm going to grab an exorcist or two, but other than that I'm at a loss.

Well, congratulations on the victory and welcome to the ranks of the Sisters Militant.
Celestine is just vicious at lower points games and a very potent force in every other game. We have a decent troop choice though they are a little expensive points wise and all our other options do the same things but better in some ways.
Get some seraphim as they are a handy option to have.
The great thing about sisters is that when we buy one basic troops model we can use it for four different units; Battle Sister, Celestians, Dominions and Retributors. So just buy up sisters models to fill out your army however you decide. You will definitely want some more Melta sisters, some flamer sisters and a handfull of Heavy Bolter Sisters (because Heavy Bolter Retributors are a pretty good option)

Thanks novatomato, sounds like a good plan. I have one question though, are sisters Repentia any good? I really like the models and the fact that they can carve up vehicles and even Marines with their Act of Faith, but I have no idea if they can be useful or not (due to cost or whatever).

I'm fairly new to this as well, but I've had a chance to play like 4 games a week since I started.

I too love the Repentia models, and fit them into a couple lists to try out.

From the games I played, it seems like you'd only want to charge at something that NEEDS to die (Terminators, Vehicles). Other normal units just aren't worth it since they can strike 1st, and Overwatch you (usually wounding you on a 3+).

They're ridiculous against vehicles though. I usually creep around with them, keeping them out of line of sight until I get the opportunity to assault Terminators, or Monstrous Creatures (and Tau Broadside teams if they are still functional after my Exorcists have a go at them).

That being said, I'm new, and all the games I've played have been against Blood Angels, Tau, and Tyranids.

On a side note, I DS'ed a 7-girl Seraphim squad with max Inferno Pistols against the Tau... oh my god, winning. 4 Melta shots ain't nothin' ta eff with. Expensive, but handy for those, "That! It needs to go!" units.

Quick run down of what I use normally,

Immolators- fantastic to bring in suicide dom squads to pop some horde or tanks ( outflank is sometimes iffy but if you get the right roll, stuff dies)
Exorcists- Must have, every hates them and usually tries to pop them first. Hard to run just one due to random missles
Repentia- Great anti-tank, even better at getting shot and counter assault
BSS- Cant have enough, they do everything including being sacrificed to a big enemy melee unit.
Dominions- Just like plain BSS but they get Immo's and more special weapons. Great for TW flamers
Retributors- Again just like BSS except rending HB or HF are amazing. Though in theory 9 of them hitting bolters with rending is still quite effective.
Uriah- Pretty junk aside from the save, has the best banner in the army imo.
Battle conclave- I run 6DCA and 3 Crusaders , add Uriah and they will blender any MEQ squad I have found.
Rhino- Field them , use them, let them die a glorious death to save your tender bits inside.
Seraphim- Currently my favourite unit, my build atm is 9sera 2x hand flamer and Celestine. Get close ,commence flaming, reroll wounds and enjoy.
St. Celestine- As you saw she is amazing, she now confers fearless to seraphim and gains Hit and run when with them at I7. Her combat ability isn't great but she just keeps coming back for more.

I am still somewhat novice to sisters (4months or so) but have been playing quite a few games. The meta here would of course be different then where you are. Here i play mostly against Chaos space marines, Blood angels, Tau (rarely), Nids ,Dark Eldar and Orks. I hope you enjoy the army, and make sure you ignore the haters.
Melta is not an option, it's a lifestyle.

Yeah, my meta is quite a bit different than yours, at my FLGS, we have Space Wolves, Grey Knights, Necrons, Blood Angels and Tyranids. I think an Ork player also frequents, but I haven't gotten to play him yet. Anyways, I've been looking at our army list a little and one thing that looks like it might be cool is to grab some Rets with HB and a Rhino and give the Rhino to a squad of Repentia. If anyone has had any experience with this tactic or thinks it might work let me know.

for fun lists repentia are pretty cool, if you want your sisters to be competitive you wont field them. they got nerfed with the FNP and buffed with the change of rage but nerfed again due to the restrictions on vehicles/assaulting/moving/etc.

Your basic list will consist of
    celestine
seraphim (typically with 2 hand flamer girls)
    2xBSS with melta/heavy flamer in a rhino
    exorcists 2-3
and/or rets with 4 heavy bolters

there are many variants to this list but the meat tends to stay the same. check out the army lists for some ideas. I have a few lists that have place me in 1st or 2nd at local tournies (before 6th edition) and they havent really changed much. If you want a copy ill message you if you cant find a list that you like in the forum.

Right now, as a self employed tutor and it being school summer holidays, my finances aren't up to spending out on new models right now so I have to make do with what I've got already, and what I have presently doesn't include Celestine, Uriah or anything to make a battle conclave out of! That said, they haven't been doing too badly recently. So far I've played 6th edition against, Blood Angels, Necrons, two different Ork armies, Guard and Ultramarines. Won two, drew one and lost three, so not bad.

I have been running two lists, 1000pts for some games, 1500 for the others.

    1000pts

    Canoness (1)
BSS - power sword, flamer and heavy bolter (10 )
BSS - power sword, melta and heavy flamer (10 )
Seraphim - power sword, plasma pistol, 1 x hand flamers (5)
Dominions - power maul, melta and flamer with Rhino (5)
Retributors - power sword, 2 x heavy bolter, 2 x multi melta with immolator (6)
    Exorcist

    1500pts

    Canoness (1)
Confessor - eviscerator and plasma gun (1)
Sororitas Command Squad - multi melta (5)
Celestians - chain sword and plasma pistol, flamer, heavy flamer, simulacrum imperialis (5)
BSS - power sword, flamer and heavy bolter (10 )
BSS - power sword, melta, heavy flamer and blessed banner (10 )
Seraphim - power sword, plasma pistol, 1 x hand flamers (5)
Dominions - power maul, 2 x melta, flamer and storm bolter with Rhino (10 )
Retributors - power sword, 2 x heavy bolter, 2 x multi melta with immolator (6)
    Repentia (10 )
    Exorcist

I fought the 1000pt army against Blood Angels, Orks, Guard and Necrons and lost against all but the Blood Angels, who I drew against, although both the Guard and Necrons were fairly close. I won both games so far with the 1500pt army, with the Ultramarines being reduced to two half squads by turn 6.

I have noticed that I have been offloading my dominions as soon as possible in order to bring my sole rhino back to pick up the repentia, meaning that although the larger number does make up somewhat for the loss of transport, they are forced to depend on the D6 running to move closer to the enemy as fast as possible, compromising the fast attack value. I like using the repentia but due to their new-found lack of armour, leaving them with no save other than the 6 invulnerable, they need transport to get to the enemy. Thanks to the new hull points situation I hug whatever cover the rhino can get rather than find the repentia having to run to far without cover. I tend to use them for attacking terminators and tanks equipped with blast radius weapons, which they are very good at but due to losing holy rage and the new variable charge distance they need to be unleashed somehow from nearby to avoid the possibility of being obliterated by assault cannons and storm bolters before they can contact. As long as they pass their act of faith they work very well, although a close combat with terminators will be bruising due to the different initiative, but at least with eviscerators counting as power weapons any terminators which get hit don't get to save against the easily inflicted wounds. If I can get a preacher attached to them they also get to re-roll any failed hits which is useful. If they don't get their AoF though they are about as much use as a hammer made of paper.
The sororitas command squad is useful for their ability to mount up to three heavy weapons and if attached to the canoness, the combination of relentless, move through cover and the passion is very useful if they can get their AoF. The hospitaler is useful for saving a wound and combining this with the canoness' three wounds the squad has more chance of surviving to continue shooting or fighting. I haven't found much benefit in the dialoguous yet though.
The confessor is useful as a tank killer due to his high BS and plasma gun and certainly useful in CC, although I'm sure a couple of DCAs and a crusader or two wouldn't go amiss and I plan to get some of these when I can. I am sure Celestine would be a useful addition to the army but I haven't found it impossible to play without her at a club level. What I would really find useful would be a second exorcist to give me something to keep firing with if/when the first exorcist gets put out of action thanks to the opposition's determination to get rid of it as soon as possible. I always put it in the best cover I can find which still gives a field of fire but that doesn't stop it getting hit hard as quickly as they can aim their weapons at it. Without having some of the more useful choices the present list offers, the long range hard hitting power of the exorcist is truly useful.
