This is confusing... Soooo confusing!
What is all this wierd stuff with posts pr. day, activity and longevity? its really confusing, especially because it mentions Points Earned Today!
What points? What do I use them for? Is there a guide to calm me?

And is there any particular point to them?

And the blog link is gone too. I thought that was quite a good idea for those who use that feature.

As cebwj said, there should really be something that informs members of these changes. If there is, then where is it? I've searched through the forum guidelines and the feedback sections- no luck.

I'm not exactly sure how the new meters work. For one thing, I've been looking at the one titled 'TODAY', which presumably indicates the level of activity of members for on a day-to-day basis. I've posted 5 times today, and mine is maxed out. However, I've seen other members, who have also posted this many times, and yet, the meter reads blank. Any thoughts?

I'm also a bit confused as to the changes, and personally, I don't really like the meters under my name, as well as the slightly altered rep meter, as it messes up everyone's stars. I much preferred the older layout, without the longevity etc.

I'm just surprised the board was founded in January, 1970! Amazing! Thats even before GW!

I think that only the person themselves can see their own daily activity meter. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the mods could also.

EDIT: I must admit, however, that I hope people don't get too rewarded simply by posting. I kinda fear that might lead to some kind of spamming. Although, you max it out quite quickly, so maybe there's a good balance to be had.

But what's the point in seeing your own? After all, don't we all know how often we've posted in a given day? If we're going to have a system like this, then I'm of the opinion that there's no harm in letting others see how often you post on a daily basis (this is already accessible to all members through our profiles).

I think it is an incentive to fill it and be an active poster.
But I do see a problem with the longevity, it says that this forum started in 1969. I don't think that Al Gore invented the internet at that time{goofy}

Its an old bug that affected the forum back in 2003.

I don't really mind it, but I think Blackie, that if your going to keep it, you'll need to reset the founding date back to 2002.
Otherwise theres just no point in having this.

I can understand this point, but where's the incentive in having a quick meter of one's own postings, unless we're trying to impress ourselves? If the 'today meter' is meant to encourage players towards high post activity, then wouldn't it make more sense to have the meter available for all players to see?

Again, why do we need a meter that tells us what we already know, that is, our own posts? It seems that a daily meter would be much more germane to this forum, if it provided a information about other members.

The longevity meter seems a bit daft, looking at it.

It can't actually go up, it can only actually go down since it's the length of your membership represented as a percentage of the board's lifespan (as far as I can tell).

Activity isn't that special, most boards show you your posting rate (if not on a post level).

Perhaps we could hold hands and tell blackhat to ease off the tinkering
