if we have to sort out an alternative, can we have just 1 alternative? So far we have two different IRC chat rooms already...both with no one in.

This is a very valid point. I agree with it strongly.

I'd like to point out, that any alternatives currently around are not officially endorsed or affiliated with LO. So to all intents and purposes LO Chat is still down.

My aim is to have one room, which I, Blackhat, or one of my senior colleagues will announce - there'll be a forum wide announcment as well as a post on this thread.

I've noticed people coming into #lochat but none of them stay long enough. Stay there long enough and other people will come.
