Welcome to Librarium Online!
Looks like a great forum with the finest in devious skaven minds in attendance!
Been away from WHFB for a while and have a pretty decent range of skaven at my disposal...
Whilst I've been away someone has seriously pimped the army list!
As such I really don't know where to start when building a army. I'm looking at 2000 and 3000 points.
(I'll list what I have at my disposal in a second post so this one doesn't get too long!)
I love the look of the new doom wheel, furnace and bell models but don't currently own any of them. Likewise the thought of a abomination appeals a complete shambling mess of Clan Moulder goodness appeals (nice modelling challenge)
The rules of magic seem to have totally changed from when I played last. (I'm waiting for the new WHFB book) but could someone give me a quick run through so I can better pick the seers.
Looking at the latest army list I was wondering if anyone ran Storm Vermin with Queek Headtaker? Would a large unit (40+) be any good 5ws 4s (+1s from Halberd) for 11 points a man?
Jezzails look to have got better S6 -4 save...nice!
Really any advice would be much appreciated.

SKAVEN ARMY BOOK (LATEST EDITION)
2 DIFFERENT SKAVEN ARMY BOOKS (PREVIOUS EDITIONS)
Also have 2x2 rat swarms and a whole heap of rats to make more swarms.
Lots of people seem to put lots of skaven slaves in their armies...must admit I've never bothered...wouldn't storm banner and/or howling warpgale and/or shadow magic trinket help sufficently against enemy missle attacks?
Well you should talk about what type of list you would like to play? What is your style, or thoughts about where the list would go?
Also, slaves have a lot of value, and it is not soley to soak up shooting casualties.
It's Adventure Time!
2010 'Ardboyz Champion
Thanks for the reply...
What other things are slaves used for?
I don't really like a one trick pony, so like to shake things up game to game. Sometimes using more war machines, sometimes more magic. Other times jam packed with lots of regiments. I need to play a few games to see what works where.
When I used to play Skaven the general idea was to engage the enemy as quickly as possible (minimising the impact of the enemies better war machines/missile troops) Utilising your own war machines and magic to help things along.
The main thing that looks to have changed is the magic system. As I understand it each mage gets dice for attack and defense (+items +army/unit specific extra dice) which then making it easier to cast their own spell, or more difficult for their opponents to cast their spells?
So I'm looking to put together a general list which I can adapt for points and opponents.
Assuming my understanding of the magic system (current one may change soon) is correct I will post some sample lists to see what people think.
Obviously if anyone wants to suggest one with the current models I have that would be great
35 STORMVERMIN MUSICIAN STANDARD FANG LEADER=410

1 LVL2 WARPLOCK ENGISEER 100
1 LVL2 WARPLOCK ENGISEER 100
5 Core units
Queek, BSB, and Chieftain with magic trinket to accompany Storm Vermin
Grey Seer and Bell with large clan rats.
Is it normally worth chucking the Engiseers in a unit?
Storm Banner could go in with Storm Vermin, Plague Monks or BSB
I figure magic is well and truly covered with the bell, Greyseer and the 2 Engiseers.
Combat wise the storm vermin should be nice and punchy with 5s and ws. Effectively a unit with the punch of Rat Ogres backed up by a rank bonus and armour save. The trinket should ensure they get there, backed up by storm banner, and howling warpgale (at least 1 of the 3 should get it!) The plague monks will provide additional combat support with t4. The large clan rats backed by the bell provide more attack options and some nice options when the bell is rung. The other clan rats, swarm and slaves with back up, divert fire and hopefully disrupt rank bonus.
The Jezzails, cannon, and doom wheel provide some ranged attacks.
Terror provided by HPA and Doom wheel hopefully creating a bit of panic among the enemy ranks.
The magic phase should be equalled or dominated by the bell, Grey seer and the 2 Engiseers. Providing some combat offense and defense in equal measures.
I figure this list should be a good all rounder, able to handle magic, combat and some heavy punching from the Artillery. Aiming to get into combat as quickly as possible. Using seers and artillery and funky war machines to back up.
Any glaring omissions? PCBs? Plague Furnace? Gutter Runners? Unit sizes too big? Small? Not enough?
