    1k new player needs help :)

    i'm going to face a friend in a 1k battle, i'm going skaven he's going WoC. We are both new to the game and still learning. Until now we just played 2 or 3 games at 500 pts to get used to the rules so now we want to try to extend the pts limit. I though about a ranged focused list as, in the previous 500 pts games, my ratlings did extremely well against him. Here's the list:

    Heroes (about 250 pts):
    priest (i need a few help with equip but for sure i'll give him 1 scroll)
    warlock lvl 1 with condenser + doom rocket

    Rare (250 pts):
    Abomination with warpstone spykes

    Special (250 pts):
    12 jezzails + 1 sharpshooter

    Core (250 pts):
    10x stormvermin + ratling
    10x stormvermin + ratling

    I'm sure he will put on the table 10 caos knights at least so i think i'll kill 1 or 2 before sending the abomination to them, the rest of the shooting will go for warriors and other hard things hoping to smash them enough that my stormvermin will be a challenge for his units...
    Suggestions? (expecially for heroes that i don't really know how to equip)

    It's not a great all-comer's list, but it's pretty good for putting the hurt on WoC. I'd split your jezzails up into two teams of 6 so you can split fire. Yes, only 1 team will be sharpshooters, but it's more important that you have deployment options to cover all firing lanes and can fire on more targets per turn if required.

    If you wanted more of an all-comer's list, I'd drop half or more of the the jezzails (I'd be willing to go down to as few as 4 models for a list this small) and the priest and look to get at least one big unit of slaves (30-40 models) run 5-wide and max ranks deep so you can smush them into an enemy unit and just tar pit them in place while you shoot into them (ratlings, warpfire throwers) and get flank charges in (small stormvermin units, abomination, whatever). Then I'd want to make at least one of the stormvermin units somewhat choppy. Fill the unit out to 20+ models, take full command and consider a Chieftain with a sword of might, dwarfbane, or sword of swift slaying and an enchanted shield to do some damage in combat.

    SLAVES!!
    One of the best units in the game, at 2pts a model options for weaponry and a good stat line(except for the LD).

    Okay, my friend used to play WoC and i think i can tell u from experiance that u need numbers(sorta what skaven do best)

    A unit of 30 stormvermin with Standard and shroud of dripping death is 250pts, that has some anti-armour capabilities.

    I find weapon teams a waste, there very pricey and too fragile, only 1 wound. I tried a army of poisoned mortars and got smashed, too fragile.

    Do you want me to design you some lists?? good luck with your army all the best

    suggested lists are all welcome aswell as advices from expert players... you give both? great!!

    btw i tried slaves in a 500 points game and when a unit lost a fight and paniced well they killed my "general" (an engeneer that had already lost 1 woud because of a double 6 in magic phase)... Well it was in the wrong spot because i'm inexperienced but slaves can't survive 1 single fight against a unit of warriors... they kill 0 and loose at least 5 rats so they loose the fight and have to take discipline test that they will fail and then of course die doing AoE damage where the only ones that can be hitted by an attak of str 3 are just other rats...

    I think they will be generally usable in high points battles maybe in hordes because with 30 attacks they may kill 2 or 3 opponents and with their number barely win the fight...

    in the end i just had a bad experience with them at my first and only use

    when i played 2 ratlings the first time in a 500 points game i could kill something like 6 warriors in a 10 models unit before they reached melee and they had mark of khorne --> so fury --> so they attaked the clan rats... sadly because i could resist and shoot if they attaked the ratling and that machine is pretty much unusefull when the fight reach the melee range (plus they don't generate panic tests if they die). With the -2 armor save they looked pretty performant to me against WoC...

    But of course i played a total of 3 games unitl now all at 500 pts maybe i'm wrong... teach me teach me

    im a NOOB, so im just waiting for a veteran to prove me wrong

    I dunno, slaves are just awesome, a block of 50+ slaves will/ should have more ranks than your opponent so you should be stubborn, then by getting a chieftan with LD 6, plaus the 3 from ranks gives u a LD of 9 which shouldn't fail(on average). if your opponent is killing 5 slaves a turn thats 10pts worth for holding up a unit of chaos warriors for a turn. Us slaves in conjunction with globadiers(any other high str weapon) and u should do well.

    Have a couple of games before you make a decision on wheather or not slaves are good, u might've just had a bad game. I'll give u some lists in a few days, got my school exams on very soon so school will take priority, cya round mate.

    I read May's issue, when the TK got released, High elves vs TK, TK won
    The TK tactic was to swamp the enemy with cheap warriors(in our case we would use slaves) and flank with hard hitters(hellpit and either Rat ogres or plague monks). Note u sould center your chieftan in the middle of your army so a majority of units can benefit from his almighty LD 6!!

    in first list i can't understand why you should put 30 stormvermin when with the same points you can have an horde of clan rats... the only stat that changes among them in the combat ability (+1 -.-) and the heavy armor (basically unusefull against chaos as they have too much Str) maybe for the stendard? is it so useful?
    In the 2° list i can't understand why so many slaves... apart from the fact that i don't really like them... they're really weak and why the musician? when they flee they die ^^ am i missing his role beacause i don't know some rule?

    btw second list is illegal you have 6 rat ogres and 3 packmasters when you can have 1 packmaster each 2 ogres ^^

    Slaves are slaves, they are just dodgy and cheap clanrats. As long as you pass the LD tests(hopefully 9, chieftan +3 from ranks)they should be normal. And continue to cause havoc.

    People are using slaves as clanrats(ive seen hard-core gamers run 5-8 squads of 50+ slaves, there's just too many of them and them can take a beating, even when they do run they will take a few guys with them) but simply keep them within someones LD, Having a basic Warlock engineer with 20 slaves, will have LD 8, but they will lose it very quickly when in combat, also the warlock will die because it sucks. Which is why people get BSB's and a warlord(in larger games), u'll become more stubborn than a dwarf

    I dont like clanrats, they have a simular stat line to slaves and a lot more expensive, yes i know they're bloody unreliable and crazy but as long as u pass the necissary test there fine. Mixing slaves with Clan Skyre is also a good idea as Slaves have the special rule "Expandable" so everything can shoot into them

    I dont believe the second list is inncorrect, "no more than 1(talking about packmasters) per 2 rat ogres", its okay to have 6 rat ogres and 3 packmasters, just no more packmasters.

    Mate, try some games, at least 1K u'll see the true awesomeness of slaves.
