On fri/sat im gunna have a 1K game against my friend. he's gunna be fielding VC, and I have no idea how to beat him =\ apparently VC can be rather nasty against skaven, so any tips on what i should field? I've no exp against VC.
Welcome hexx, little tip, keep the leet talk (gunna, exp) down a little, yeah? Those are the rules!
To your question, VC wins with outnumbering and fear with some hard hitting vampires running around killing all. So win combat and overrrun those skeletons and zombies with large blocks of rats of various plumage. Try to knock out the lord any way you can. VC have the worst basic units (zombies and skellies, ghouls ain't great either) but the best characters in the game (next to chaos).
VCs are a tough matchup for Skaven. All that Fear and Terror will see anything not ranked running if they so much as sneeze at it. Luckily, they should never outnumber you so you won't need to auto break from Fear.
Shooting, magic, and static CR is your friend here. Big blocks of clanrats and slaves can hold their infantry in place and with flankers you'll see them crumble. Ratling Guns and Jezzails make a mess of their cavalry and the Varghulf, while Warpfire Throwers laugh at those regenerating Grave Guard. Warp Lightning is the all purpose killer.
Plague Monks will be very useful as their Frenzy keeps them from running and with so many attacks they can tear up zombies, skellies and ghouls. Censer Bearers are amazing against cav and GG as normal. The Bell will also be handy to make one unit ITP, Death Frenzy helps too.
Outnumber them and magic, shoot, CR your way to victory. Vampires are killy, but often not very well protected, so direct Weeping Blades, Fellblades, or Assassins at them to bring them down.
It's a tough matchup, no doubt, but we can pull through.

I've found the warp fire thrower comes in handy vs those blocks of skeletons and zombies. wounding on 2's and auto hitting is always good if you don't manage to blow yourself up. The brass orb is an excellent item as generally VC initiative is horrible except for vampires. 1000pts is a rough match up though unfortunately as you don't have full access to lots of our toys.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I recently played a vc army. Make sure you make use of your fast units. I killed off 5 blood knights and 5 ethreal knights in 2 turns with censor bears and a nice block. Censor bears tear the shit out of this army. And one you get the flank member to let loose your giant rats if you got any with a big 12 inch move those bastards fly around his flank and and ensure you win main combats were your in the middle or really **** with his corpse carts.
Its all about speed I think against vc. If you let them sit there and raise zombies over and over you'll be over run by fear. It only takes 2 lost combats and over run blocks to turn the tide against you . So be sure to hit hard hit fast and take his rear and flank as fast as possible. If you go for his vampires whenever possible if to anything but stop them from attacking you because a nice skaven block can handle most zombie blocks easily. Also try to draw him into your center to make it easier for a flank it makes your fast units that much better if they aint gotta go far.
oops, I forgot to say thanks for the advice guys
The games went ok, in my opinion. I bought about...60 more clanrats! So we ended up having 2K games. Although I lost I still learned a few things from it. Plague Censor Bearers do indeed tear through them, and a lucky Strength 10 hit from a Warp Lighting Cannon puts a stop to Vampire Heroes
Shooty things and hard hitting things do well ^.^
Fear tests are something to look out for though =|
