Welcome to Librarium Online!
This is the start of a new series, that will hopefully bring new ideas and tactics to the forums. Each week, a new topic will be posted up about a different unit in the army book. This gives you your chance to discuss the unit to its fullest. So, please leave your comment!
This week's topic is - Warlord
What option is best for him? Do you mount him - on what? What magic item combination is the best? What unit do you put him in - does it matter? Why use him over a Grey Seer?
Well i'm thinking of putting my warlord with a fellblade/shield on a war-litter.
Putting him in a unit of gutter runners with a warp-grinder.
My other option,
-blade of corruption
I tried Fellblade/sheild/Rat ogre bonebreaker last weak. He did awesome, generating 6 wounds (1 wound and 5 overkill) in every combat i fought him in. Killed a whole unit of blood knights by himself. Thing is, the Rat ogre never got to swing, as the challange was already resolved at that point (the enemy dead with the maximum 5 overkill) so now i'm thinking Great Pox Rat.
--Famous last words of Asmodean
Who the hell uses blood knights i love the models but on a tournament there just to expensive and not forget that they are frenzy.. , Im just thinking that if i use a warlord with a fellblade he'll die before he gets to swing...
Some people do. A guy at my games workshop sometimes judges tournaments and he said that he once saw them be the ultimate deathstar unit. It was ten of them with full command, and 2 vampire characters. They ran around the board killing everything. They ate 30 hammerers and a thane in 3 rounds, and beat a kitted out star dragon and high elf prince who got the charge in. If used properly they are quite effective. You just have to be careful with them.
Depending on what you upgrade him with, he is a star on the field. He can kill wildly on the field, and as you said before about the Fellblade. I tried it out, for I'm not very lucky, so he died before he could reach the combat.
Well, the chieftan (lord) option is great, cheap, high attacks at high init (can stop a challenge before it starts, esp with +STR or more attacks)
Bonebreaker - fantastic death dealing. Unfortunately it can only be stuck on the side of your 20 x 20 based units, so as a general can't cover as many as it would from the centre and can be picked out. It also has the bonebreakers low init in combat, so unless you're chewing up standard infantry / going toe to toe with another monster (may be trouble there, they're good but not that good) i often ask myself if it's worth it.
War Litter - ah, my favorite (also with my O&G army i have lots of spare chariots after stripping the boars off, great for converting.) adds to the armor save, works out at just more than 6 points per model r.e. filling a unit up for ranks, adds to save, can't be killed (just the character targetted) and metes out stormvermin attacks.
Pox rat - Do i need to get a taxidermied rat for converting? I don't like it for the cost, the base is the wrong size, the attacks are pap and a cavalry mount just isn't nesseccary for them.
The Warlord (hero) choice - I love the BSB, and you can give him a shield for the parry save for peanuts. I tend not to equip them for standard combat and wedge them into units, as i'd rather get a assassain for that job or a enginseer/ mage. taking a BSB is automatic though, and he can still have scavenge pile items (tail weapon is a no brainer, or the warplock pistol counts as a hand weapon for that extra attack for peanuts)
You have the choices backwards. Warlord is the Lord, and Chieftan is the Hero.
oops! You're very right
Mounted on a rat ogre bonebreaker with a warlcoks' echanced blade (can't remember name) in a unit of four other rat ogres and the hero packmasters skweel, for about 30 strength 5 attacks with added bonus from Swkeel XD
