So I'v finally desided to sell my Wood elves *shakes a fist at them* And get a skaven army. Been wanting Skaven since I started and only got Wood Elves cus I got them cheep from my sister.. XD
Anyways I was wondering what to get, Other then the obious Rule book, Battalion box and Warlord. I mostly play 1000 point games so I want to make it to 1000 points at first, and then build on the army after
Also, I wanted to know what people think of the Stormvermin, Are they good? They look cool..
Thanks in advance^^
Well to the Great horned rat
Ok, skaven almost always outnumber your foe(damn you goblins) and are great for horde and gunline armies. Also are now one of the best armies around due to the 8th edition rules.
Ok, there are 4 main clans technically 5.
Clan Mors - Mainly Stormvermin based
Clan Eshin - An army of ambushing assains which include night runers, gutter runners and assasins.
Clan Moulder - A mutated army which includes giant rats, rat swarms, rat ogres and hellpit abominations.
Clan Psetilens - starter of the Black plague and red pox, these guys almost took over lusteria and are insane in combat. The average plague priest has toughness 4 and 3 attacks!(2 handed weapon and frenzy).
Clan Eshin - Most technologicaly advanced of all the clans, they have made some of the most deadly and unpredictable machines ever. They've made machine guns, flame throwers, sniper rifles cannons, grenades and the DOOMWHEEL!
I love having a horde army as you all skaven have the 'Strength in numbers rule' which fro each rank gives you an additional Leadership up to a maximum of 3.
I quickly typed up a very powerful 1000pt horde army.
Plague Priest (Lvl 1)
additional hand weapon
30 clan rats
30 clan rats
30 giant rats
2 pack masters
30 plague monks
standard, bringer-of-the-world and musician.
This army most the pieces out of the battalion(you don't use 2 rat ogres and a pack master)
Storm vermin are good, however plague monks are better(both cost 7 pts each). One WS 4 S 4 attack or three WS 3 S 3 attacks.
Enjoy your new army and sorry about your elves, good luck.
Thanks for the help and the quick list ^_^
I think getting 30 giant rats would be a bit expensive.. The box that contains 6 giant rats (And 2 rat ogres and 3 packmasters) costs a bit more then the one contaning 20 clanrats.. And getting the 5 boxes needed for 30 giant rats would cost more then the batallion box, army book, Warlord and Grey Seer put together..
Well, I'l see what I can come up with^^
I use my gnoblars from my ogre kingdoms army as giant rats. Or I place several small rats on a ogre sized base, i make this count as 4 giant rats.
I personally use the rats from the Plague monks sprues. There are 4 giant rats per sprue, and they are nearly as big as the giant rats of the rat ogres/giant rats box.
I've just started myself, but have gotten quite a few games in and have really enjoyed my Stormvermin with Queek. Queek is great in challenges and takes away armor saves. He also has great leadership.
I run the Stormvermin with him as his special guard variety. This means they have WS5, S5 (Halberds) and I5, which is pretty awesome against most things. I'm not sure whether this is actually very potent in others' experience, but Stormvermin can be pretty fun to run.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm probably getting a few Skaven models next week and then i'l slowly build up my army
Anyways, I was wondering about the Warplock Jezzails. To me they seem quite good from looking in the book but everyone seems to disslike them so whats so bad about them? Sure they cant move and shoot but 36" range, Strength 6 magical shots and -4 on the saves against their shots with a 4+ armor save seems quite good so why are they so dissliked..?
