Welcome to Librarium Online!
Like the title suggests, I'm curious about how skaven players make their character builds? What lethal combinations have sprung out from mixtures of the army book and rulebook? Do you load up your characters with the most potent magic items, or do you take your chieftans only with great weapons? Are Grey Seer good like they are, or do they need 50-100 points more spent on somethign ot make them that much better?
I am heading off to the Peace Corps. It is bery likely I will not be back. Good luck to all of you endeavors.
I have my skaven warlord with the sword of swift slaying, dawnstone, armor of destiny, and a bonebreaker. It comes to exactly one hundred points for the magic items, but you get a 3+ armor save (that is re-rollable), 4+ ward save, and always strike first.

Yesterday, I played a BSB chieftain with only a Greatsword and a heavy armor, plus a magic banner, and when I charged with 3 units on a flail-equiped Marauders horde, my chieftain died with 4 attacks of S5 which 2 of them hit and wounded... I feeled quite frustrated to lose my hero so easily.
Personally I go bare bones. Grey Seer with a Scroll, Plague Priest w/ a Censer, maybe another item. Chieftain w/ Shield, BSB and Storm Banner. Warlock w/ Energy Condenser and Rocket.
Skaven has much better support characters than fighting ones in my opinion but that's also how I play my army. If you have enough blocks they will never get charged by something dangerous and with all the Magic and shooting we can pump out I don't see any need for defensive melee items.

When I have a Warlord I tend to have him with a War Litter, Ogreblade, Enchanted Shield, Foul Pendant and Portents of Verminous Doom. He's a little expensive but that gives him S6, 2+ armour and 5+ ward. The portents are a little more marginal and I would consider dropping them to get him a 4+ ward instead, if I did this, a Warlock-augmented Blade would be a nice idea on him. However I don't always run a Warlord, at the moment I am going for Queek instead usually.
I tend to equip my BSB Chieftain for resilience and leave the magic banner at home. He usually has an Enchanted Shield (or Dragonhelm and shield) and a Talisman of Endurance for 3+/4+. Recently though I have thought about ditching all this for the Armour of Silvered Steel and just take the Parry save as his only ward, not least because I don't really like giving BSBs shields!
I also usually have a Warlock Engineer with a Condenser, and either an Obsidian Amulet (to give MR to Queek's Stormvermin) or a Dispel Scroll and put him in a Clanrat unit.
I sometimes also take an Assasin, who takes the Sword of Anti-heroes and the Portents of Verminous Doom.
