Welcome to Librarium Online!
If you recently visited the GW site, you would have noticed the announcement of the new Orcs & Goblins armybook.
Also, that big~ass spider...
Now, my question is, how would us skaven players counter all those large monsters? Rely on our WLC or do you have other sneaky bits to share?
Combat Res (go on, beat 3 ranks and a standard - heaven help if i score wounds / get on the side / rear)
also, magical shooting etc
You'll wound on at least a 6. you'll more than likely be hitting on a 4.
They'll most likely be hitting on a 4, (ok, prob wounding on a 2) - just to negate rank and banner it'd better have 9 attacks at least.
Or, hit the unit around it (If it's on it's own don't worry that much)
I'm sure it'll be lots of points too. (oh, please mount a gobbo on it for me to hit with a low T)
It looks like there are a lot of goblins on the spider. So just hit the goblins for some more cr.
Slaves, slaves and some more slaves! God i love those little buggers.
In the few games ive played (kinda new, been mostly painting for 2 years) i usually tarpit the enemies with 40x blocks of skaven while i shoot them with WLC. A bit cheesy sometimes but hey, who can blame me? Im skaven after all
It doesn't fit you say?
Apparently it's around 300pts with no upgrades.
Doomwheel could be a good (if unreliable) way to go - Zzzap! inflicts D6 wounds, so 3 good bolts could really spoil its day (or just gently singe a couple of goblins). And that means it could take out around double its value quite easily.
I doubt it's going to have much armour, so even jezzails are going to make it think twice before stick its head out from behind a forest. It's initiative could make it vulnerable, but we'll have to see when the book comes.
Or just track it down with some gutter runners with poisoned attacks...
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone

That's good enough for me
Thanks for your replies.
Just figured to let you know that you cannot attack the crew. They do not have a wound profile and thus cannot be killed or attacked. Hope this helped.
Yep, it has a 4+ save, but unless your opponent puts a gobbo shaman on it (laugh and point) you're hitting it and it only. I'm not scared of it, spider, meet combat resolution. Oh, shame, you don't like that then.
It's got 8 attacks, hitting on 4's (generally). That's 4 hits let's be kind and assume it wounds.
You have 3 ranks and a banner. and a musician to win draws (and may wound it - maybe one, but hey! )
It's 5 wide. That's 10 attacks on it, 50% hit. 5 hits, and one wound, 50% save odds (oh, out of your four wounds you may "parry" one with a HW and shield save.
- Not taking into account anything like a horde, or your champion, any hero in there (against a bare horde of clanrats you'd actually have 22 attacks on it (inc champ)
Yeah, i'm not scared.

Combat resolution? Are you guys serious?
That's the worst way to beat the spider
Let's imagine a lot of combat res: 3 ranks, banner, BSB even and charge. That's 6 points of combat res.
It has 8 attacks at WS4 str 5, another 8 attacks from the crew and it has thunderstomp. Combat res will NOT cut it. It can inflict up to 22 wounds on your unit in one round. Statistically it'll be about... the spider inflicts 5 wounds, roughly 4 if you have parry. The goblins kill 1 more, thunderstomp ( the average of a dice roll being 3.5, so I will calculate on that ) kills about 3 more. That's 8 kills, if you have parry, so he wins combat even if you have very high combat res. Let's imagine you have... 25 attacks, you will inflict a grand total of 1 wound back.
Also 1 of the spider's attacks inflicts D6 wounds ( represents the poisoned stinger ) so he could direct that one on your character if there is one present and slaughter him in one go.
Combat resolution is NOT the way to go.
Rork's idea seems pretty good. If you are lucky with the zapper, you can bugzap the spider in one round with 3 bolts of pure green doom!
If all fails then 80 slaves should at least slow it down
Oop, didn't pay attention to thunderstomp. That's D6 though - And 8 attacks from the gobbo's on top? I don't own the book, and only glimpsed at it but is it 8?
It could do 22 wounds - at best rolling on everything - the same way a horde would do 22 right back (3 ranks of 7 wide with a champ)
It has higher S on it's 8 attacks, and thunderstomp doesn't even roll to hit - that's gonna be harsh, but you do start at 4
Maybe I have mis-judged it (well, obviously i missed the thunderstomp and thought it was ws3, with insignificant crew, not 8 attacks from the blighters!)
I guess I have to have a couple of games with it
