As the title says I'm wondering what you all use for slaves. I was thinking of having a real mixed slave unit with a few skaven, Some humans ad goblins and maybe even a few elves.
That has always been my dream for slaves as well. But instead, I just bought a bunch of Island of Blood Clanrats off of eBay and use them to represent slaves. As I don't use clanrats in any of my army lists, this doesn't confuse opponents. The fact that they happen to have shields and half of them have spears doesn't matter. I just throw them all randomly together and follow the WYSIWYG convention that it's OK if you show extra gubbins on models. The idea for me being, these are slaves. They don't know how to use their cruddy, 3rd hand shields and are too demoralized or low on training to know how to fight with spears anyway.
Haven't had a problem even in tournaments with this setup.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
RIP Warhammer 40,000: 21 Sep 1998 - 24 May 2014
I got a unit of night golbins on ebay, that seem to work great for slaves imo.
my clanrats, because sometimes they are slaves and sometimes they are clanrats, it lets me adjust to the points i am using
My friend convert them up using part of skaven Clan Rat and Cyrpt Ghoul parts. They look wicked.
I use Lizardmen Skinks from an older edition(5th maybe...???), they have bracelets that can be modelled as irons and chains and a skaven shield will cover the bow once it has been clipped off, but still working on removing the bows and quiver/arrows, they will have fish hooks in the "gills" to fluff why they are no longer amphibious (they kept escaping using the underground water system...???)... dirt cheap on eBay...
Night Goblins are mentioned in the fluff, also dirt cheap on eBay... and finally
I also had the idea to use Gnoblar heads on clanrat bodies and make slave "pinkies" (hairless, often blind baby rats)
I use the Un-armoured clanrats and Night Goblins as my slaves, fits with the fluff I have planned for my army and looks quite good imo
Since I started playing skaven after IoB, I was able to buy some old OOP clanrats already painted for cheap....those are my slaves!
roughly a 60:40 mix of oop clanrats to island of blood clanrats... basically all my clanrats from my old army mixed in with ebay'd new ones to fill in the numbers i required for the new book. they go very well mixed together especially using a variety of the color schemes from the GW site's 'how to paint clanrats' article on both model types.
I use Night Goblins, a smattering of regular Goblins, and a pinch of Empire State Troops/Militia mixed in with a bunch of IoB Clan Rats . . . . . . . . completed with the back line being giant rats and handlers. (rats hoping for an easy meal off of dead slaves and the handlers whipping the slaves along). But mostly I don't use slaves *gasp*
Really depends on the fluff/feel of the army I am putting on the table.
