    1850 First Attempt Blood Angels

I've been thinking of starting a blood angels army, and was thinking of using something along the lines of this:

    HQ

    Mephiston (in stormraven), biomancy

    ELITE

    2 Sanguinary Priests: 1 w/jump pack + power fist, 1 w/bike + power fist

    TROOP

10 Assault Marines w/2 melta guns, powerfist

10 Assault Marines w/2 melta guns, powerfist

10 Assault Marines w/2 melta guns, powerfist

10 Scout Snipers w/camo cloaks, melta bombs on sgt

    FAST

    8 Bikes w/powerfist, 2 melta guns, + attack bike w/multi-melta

    HEAVY

    Stormraven w/TL Multi-melta + TL Lascannon

The idea is for the snipers to hang back and claim objectives, while everything else moves up in small teams, each within 6in of a Sanguinary priest, at least until they reach close combat. The stormraven comes in from reserve to help against flyers and pesky distant enemy vehicles, while dropping Mephiston out to cause havok.

    How's it look?

What do you mean by 'Storm Talon' in your fast attack section?

I meant Storm Talon, as in the flyer...only now I realize I'm not sure if Blood Angels can take Storm Talons. Can they?

Oops, guess not. Switched out for a Storm Raven gunship, and a small unit of assault marines to ride inside, and either help turn the tide of a battle, or claim an objective late game.

    Thanks for the heads up.

I personally recommend you drop the small assault squad, the fists on the priests and the small ranger squad. With those points you can purchase a death company with decent upgrades to charge out of the storm raven. A 5 man assault squad even on the charge will do very little against most marine type units, especially since they have no power weapons of any kind.

Ya, sadly priests got nerfed a bit in 6th. FC doesn't give us the o-so-loved +1 initiative anymore, and FNP is only a 5+ extra save, while still good, isn't what it used t be. Otherwise I'd agree with greektlake on the other points, a 5 man assault squad want get you that much compared to a 5 man DC.

Switched out some units as was suggested. Exchanged the second ranger squad and a couple combi-flamers for the points needed to upgrade the small assault marine squad into a small death company squad.

    Thanks for the help, everyone!

Realized that the Eldar weren't doing as much for the list as I'd hoped, and I really want more scoring units.

The compromise I'm using is dropping the Eldar, using regular scout snipers instead, switching the death company for more assault marines, and switching the librarian for Mephiston, who will ride in from reserve on the stormraven. With biomancy and 3 psychic powers, he should be absolutely insane in close combat.

Mephiston hardly needs Biomancy. He's better off keeping his standard powers. That one transport vehicle isn't going to last long at 1850 so the Wings ability will be very useful.

In fact, with so many jump troops you might consider Sanguinor instead. He does a lot of buffing in his own right. This would let you drop the Storm Raven and run a no-vehicle list. Either Terminators or a second bike squad would make a good replacement.

I just don't think the Sanguinor is going to last long enough, as he'll draw all the anti-vehicle shooting straight away.

I need the flying unit for shooting down enemy flyers. If not a stormraven, then what would work better for taking out enemy flyers? I'm still in the planning phase, so I'm definitely open to ideas.

Biomancy just seems like a stronger choice than extra movement, extra strength, and re-rolling to hit. Fantastic AP 2 shooting attacks, bonuses to strength + toughness, bonuses to initiative + attacks, a power to weaken opponent's S + T, and the ability to give himself FNP and it will not die.

I could be wrong though, I'll have to think on it, and play some proxy games.
