Default 500 Assaulty Army

I know, this seems a bit droll, but I have never played against anything but Blood Angels, because the closest decent hobby shop is like 45 mins away from my house. I would use plasma, but it doesn't give instakill, and it hurts you. At 500 points, he usually has like 2 troops squads with a ML each, a whirlwind, and a chaplain (no surprise). He is a bit new, and almost every army i make crushes him like a bug, because i don't need versatility. I just pound the heck out of hic command unit untill it dies, then... bye bye!

Plasma DOES have some advantages.
It gives no Insta-kill against marines since its strenght isn't double their tougness.
BUT! it makes sure no-one gets an armour safe, since it has an AP of 2. Also, it has quite nice range.

For this list I recommend changing the multi-melta's to Missile Launchers, just for the extra range, so you can shoot his units all the time.

Also be a nice guy and put your assault squad where it has to be => under Fast Attack.

I do have to say to you, get yourself long range weapons. Blood Angels use lots of units who can move 12" and charge 6" in bigger games. And 3-4 rounds shooting against them will be far more effective than the 1-2 rounds shooting you do against them now.

I dont understand. Are you asking for help to make your army better, so you can crush your friend more? Help to make it worse to give him a better chance? Help to bring it to 1000 points?

All in all, your list isnt very good. Missile launchers over multi meltas is a good idea. So would be changing the melta guns to plasma guns. Melta guns should be saved for tac squads headed for close combat. In any case, what kind of advice are you looking for?

I was looking on general advice. I just came up with this army. I am not that good at modeling, i am also a bit bad with painting, but i am uber-competitive. After i have maxed out the potential, i will expand to 1000 Points.

I respect the competative attitude that you have but remeber if he never wins he will loose interest very fast many of my past opponets have. Yep in a year I single handedly reduced our gaming club by half, I have now learned an important lesson and sometimes let the opponent win, believe me some of my opponents use tactics that you would expect from gretchin.

As for your list I like to use the same list over and over again and try to win with a list that fits the character of my army not a powerplay like my old one back in the previous codex. So at the 500 point level that is pretty good but Ill give you some advice for playing against powerarmour in general at larger point games.

First Remember they have just as much access to heavy weapons as you so armoured units Dreads and tanks are risky and usually ineffective. Terminators as individual models are much more effective especially cause they have multiple powerfists. However don't uderestimate the dread. I have found they are best used in pairs.

So for your list 2 dreads or a termi squad Increase the unit sizes and add some plasma, Vidicators are nice if you can keep them safe unitil they are in range (since he is playing BA it wont be hard), maybe some landspeeder tornadoes to harass his units as they move forward.

Thank you for the inspiration. I have decided, as i just getting back to a SM army (have been touring Chaos and Nids for about a month). For a primarily black color scheme, bleached bone shoulder pads and red trim. They are going to be an all vehicle army, which means that every unit has a transport.

For the centerpiece, i'm thinking of a LRC, A squad of termies, and the Chaplain, all in termie armor.

Right now, i removed the spiky stuff off an old Chaos Rhino, and Loyalized it. I have put the first coat of black on, and am now scrounging for imperial slide transfers for vehicles.

Alrighty, well, im a competitive player as well. So I have a little advice for you.

Mechanised SM armies blow.

Its sad, but true. The bottom line is that the rhino, and razorback by exxtension (actually all are vehicles, 11 side armor, bleh!) are FAR to easy to destroy. Consider this, your BA oponent can kill them with normal attacks on the charge. Thats right, they can punch through the darned thing. How sad is that? In any case if you like having a competitive list, I wouldnt go with a mech list. If you want to give your friend a chance, then it should work fine. I wouldnt bring that to a tourny though. People will make a mess of you.

Okay, thank you for the advice. As i dumped Space Marines about a year ago, and mostly painted them to fit chaos, and that being like their fifth coat, i'm starting fresh. I have most common used very generalized tactics, but focused more on cc than other types of combat. Recently, i played a 1k sons army, which while brutal is an anti-elite army.

For my new focus, for uber competitive, i was thinking that i should go for a landspeeder squadron for deadly harrassment. MAybe just 2 landspeeders for a 500 point game. 2 units of 10 marines, and a power fist captain joining one of those units, or by himself.

HQ -
Captain - 86
Bolt Pistol and Power Fist

Troops -
10 Marines - 165
Lascannon
10 Marines - 150

Fast Attack -

2 Landspeeder Squadron - 100 Points

Total - 501

My freind and i are a bit lax on points, you can have 5 over is the general rule, but i know that i need it <500 to have it okay.

change the powerfist to a power weapon. then your not wasting the captains initiative and your under the points value by four i think. you can use this to get some dodgy equipment for him eg Auspex, frag grenades.

This looks pretty good to me. For the Captain, i'm going to get a specially modeled sheild, and make it a custom job. Any other suggestions would be nice.
