I just started space marines and one of my friends uses IG. The purpose of this army is to deploy straight out at the begining. The bike will rush forward. The one with the attack bike will go after a group of infantry most likely and tie them up while the other two groups go after tanks and vehicles. While this is going on, my assault groups and LST's will be zooming up. The LST's will probably be going at their flanks while the assault squads rush their front. This will hopefully draw out and separate their fire until I get into close combat and tear them apart. The LST can also be used as light anti tank/transport. So pretty much I am going for speed on this one. Please help me out with any comments you can think of. Last edited by Valdearg; March 22nd, 2006 at 03:28. |

Ok, so with guard you are facing tanks which are tough, and troops which are woosy. You have the bike melta squads to bust tanks, which is good. If the squad with the Attack bike is for anti troop, then give the 2 bikes flamers. Your assault troops should be anti troop as well. You want to get them into combat and safe from template death. Ensure they have cover saves! I would use flamers on them instead of plasma since the guard will most likely be in cover. No cover saves to flamers! TOAST! Other than that you won't melt a 27 point marine with an over heat that way. Better still lose the special weapons on the assault squads and give one sergeant Terminator Honours and a power fist. That squad will be able to take anyone and anything. RoV

Actually, I wouldn't put flamers on your bikes. I don't even think I would use your bikes twin-bolters or assault squads boltpistols before charging in.. The reason to this is you don't want to kill his squad in your own turn but so he can sit back and fire away on your expensive bikers.. You want to hurt him in your own turn and kill him off in his turn so your squads are protected during his turn of shooting by beeing locked in combat.. Another thing, I would drop the chaplains plasmapistol, no need for that, also since furious assault is overkill against guard I would make one of your assault squads fast attack.. That would free up enough points to get more meltaguns on your bikers, which I think are much more needed.. Also don't forget to assault the tanks you've been shooting at, even if you can't hurt them it keeps your squad safe from ordinace and other guns if you position them carefully.. |

Good points, but the flamers are great to guarantee that at least one squad will not be a threat. The bikers will not be safe assaulting a vehicle, as they do not count as locked and can be gunned down in the Guard turn, even if the tank stays in base to base. But yes, you dont want the enemy to run away leaving you in front of his guns. RoV

I would keep the Melta guns. Basic Bikers will maul IG and Tanks are the main threat (though Plasma is bad too.) The Crozius is a single handed weapon. Think of it as a power weapon with a differen't name. 3 Squads of Assault Marines, using cover should go through a Guard army with few, if any problems. 3 Squads of Bikers can turbo turn 1 and blast 3 Russes turn 2. Good choices. So thats most of the IG stuff dealt with. The LST's can deal with more annoying aspects such as Stormtroopers, maybe veterans if they're well deployed to avoid combat etc. Overall a nice list to beat IG with. You can deal with 4 Squads of Guardsman on the Charge (Assault Marnes+Chaplain.) Bikers with melta's are death to tanks of the IG variety. LST's are great all around. Well concieved and executed. I am surprised to here you call yourself a newbie, this is a great first time list.

i would remove the furious assault from the assault marines. I realize that cuts down on the # of speeders you can bring, but its just wasted points against guard (who you go before and wound on 3's anyways). that and dropping the PP from the chappy gives you about 85pts, which should go to giving the chaplain terminator honors, swapping some of the assault marine PP for flamers, and perhaps a second attack bike. there are just better things to do than buy furious assault for the AM's.
