    I remember back in the day when Black Templars had free vows, and I sure as hell missed always hitting on 3+ no matter what, that was awsome But of course not as awsome for the people who I was hitting. But then again I also the old EC where he could call out people, that was worth while.

    I thought that you can still do that, no-one complains when I put my Halo Warriors on the board.

    I think DiW is referring to the loss of Chapter Traits.

    My first game ever: I played against Necrons.
    I made several severe mistakes: charged my online swift unit up ahead (some bikers with a chaplain) without any reinforcements and had the rest of my army try to kill the Monolith. At the end of turn 6 I had lost the game though we played until total annihilation and I achieved phase out in turn 8 or 9 when I finally had downed the Monolith and trained my guns on the Necrons - what I should have done long before.
    But the part that makes it a worthwhile memory for me: my biker squad and the chaplain were in close combat from turn 2 and the held out against the entire enemy force (except for the Monolith) until turn 6! It was amazing watching my friend throw every unit he had into that assault but just not getting my guys killed.
    (After that first game I came to LO and actually learned about some tactics. It's good to have made virtually every possible mistake in game one - for the better results in all the games thereafter. )

    A scene me and another friend keep remembering was a battle between my marines and some traitor marines, where my chaplain and the enemy chaos terminator general clashed into each other right in the middle of the battlefield. My chaplain's "retinue" was already down to almost nothing, but I managed to shoot away the terminators surrounding the chaos general in my turn. Then he shot his plasma pistol and killed the only remaining follower of my chaplain and charged him.
    The HQs fighting right there in the center of it all - no other infantry in range to help either side. It took two player turns until they both finally simultaneously killed each other off in their epic duel. For those two turns the focus was completely on them. Everything else seemed far and distant and irrelevant, covered by the fog of war. Another friend was watching and this scene really captured all three of us in total awe.

    As for what I miss from the old codex:
    * chapter traits, sure thing
    * cheap chaplains with good profiles (they were an HQ choice in virtually every army I had, but now they just don't do the trick anymore)
    * scouts with marine-level stats

    In the last edition, you could field a ten man command squad, led by a captain, with a chaplain and librarian attached for one HQ choice. My favorite squad, and it got extinguished in the new codex.

    I miss 2nd Edition Memphiston, specifically him charging Abaddon + Retinue by himself and carving them all to pieces in one round.

    Iron Arm + Quickening + Memphiston (already a combat monster) = WIN.

    Furious Angels (Space Marines) - W18, D1, L8 :)
    Pinched Nerve (High Elf Blood Bowl team) - W6, D1, L11 :(
