Topic of the Week: Memorial Day Memories

Coming off of the extended Memorial Day weekend here in the U.S., I thought, what better a topic than a flashback episode?

This week's topic is a very broad one, and deals with your Space Marine memories. From the previous editions of the codex (what do you miss, are you glad something is gone?) to the fluff (how has it changed over the years?) to memories of any number of games the Space Marine community of LO have played, this is the thread to talk about it.

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend!

This may be a little off topic, just thought I'd like to share it. This Memorial day I played my pure Grey Knight Daemonhunter army twice, once against the new Imperial Guards and another against the Witchhunter Sisters army.

We played annihilation and I beat the IG list 12KP to 3KP. I also beat the sisters 7 to 4.

Then the next day I played my Raven Guard marines against a Nob biker army. We played annihilation and his whole army was worth only 5KP's total. In a 1500 game, just his 2 squads of Nobz bikers w/Warboss was already 1460pts. His other squad was some Gretchins who he held in reserves and just hid. My army was 7KP's.

I gotta admit, they're super tough. Probably the 2 toughest single units I've ever gone up against.

Oh...I still managed to beat them 4 to 3.

I remember the old days when my group didnt own a rule book so alot of the games we played had homebrew variations of what we thought the rules were.
Favorite moment was when my land raider crusader attacked a catachan squad and every shot hit and killed and the last guy ran straight off the table edge

I miss being able to create your own chapter freely, I thought that was the worst thing to go with the new codex

On the bright side, everything else has improved so that's OK then

    I miss:
    -Chapter Traits
-the old razorback models, with the guy in the turret
-Veteran skills on termies, suddenly those twin LC termies aren't such a good idea
    -Marine profile scouts
-when the specil characters couldn'tt be abused and make your force broken, Vulkan w/ 50 flame/melta weapons for example.

    Not that much really.
    Played since december/03 W/D/L Feb.6-09- now 40k Guard 22-9-9 Marines 5-3-4 DE 6-4-1
    Necromunda 10-0-9 Space Hulk Nids 8-0-1Terms 9-0-2 Gorkamorka 1-0-1

Similar situation with my buddy and I. I played SM and he played IG. We said that hunter killer missles didn't need LoS, so the first turn would always be each team firing off all of their HKM and often a lot would ride on the first round, fun times.

Also we got lazy one game (after palying for about four hours), we said from now on the pie plate from my vindicator would hit/kill all or nothing. First shot I did with it missed (all), next on killed like 25 guardsmen, hahaha.

Imperial Guard = Soviet Army? Me thinks so.

Back when I had Marines (last edition), I was the only guy who fielded the Typhoon-pattern landspeeder. It routinely performed well, often survived, had several major kills tallied on its side, and, best of all, my opponents never quite took it seriously. You gotta love it when your favorite, best-performing model is deliberately ignored all the time.

The Typhoon is even better now but still nobody seems to field it. Truly, you Marine players have some really cool toys that you keep ignoring in favor of Pedro, Vulkan and storm shields all the time. It's starting to get funny.
