    Space Wolves and Flyers

    Fellow Lupine warriors...

So what's the buzz with flyers in the 6th ed? Everyone and his aunt is now hurling squadrons of flying nasties across the board.
How are Space Wolves Dealing with them?

Are we able to take storm talons (not in the SW codex)? Should we?

How are you all knocking the other players flyers down?

I primarily use an Aegis Defence Line w/ Quad gun. It creates a nice line to protect my Long Fangs and allows me to shoot down Flyers.
Other than that, I use Long Fangs but to mixed effects.

There's no real answer but there are a few things I'm toying with. Such as IG allies to get a Vendetta or Hydra.

Defence line and IG allies is the way. Hydras will drop fliers quite nicely and you can take them in squadrons.

The only problem I have with Hydra's is that unless there is a flyer/monster/skimmer they can only snap shot.

In my gaming group there are only a few guys that field flyers. I have found the easiers tactic for me is to just leave them alone, go for my objectives, and let them do their thing. If I were going to field anti-air, I would go with a couple Aegis Defence Lines with Quad Gunds though.

Unfortunately the pups can't take the SM fliers as they aren't codex marines, so that leaves the BA and GK with the Storm Raven, and the marines (Ultra etc.) with the Storm Talon. Pups get nothing.

After all, there's no such saying as 'Dogs may fly'. LOL

Come again? I'm not an expert of IG codex but unless they have some special rule to prevent it, I would think they can shoot things normally.

Apparentley they only have sky fire, which means they cannot target ground units.

I have been thinking over this quite a bit. Fliers are very popular right now in my meta, everything from spam scythes(necrons) to spam Vendettas(IG), and inherently we don't have any real cheap cost effective flier options.
I recently bought a Storm Eagle for its looks, its a solid option but you're paying land raider points for a 12 all round flier, 300+points if you want to make it strong anti tank capable. So, I looked through the IA options for space marines looking for any gems, even the Contemptor Mortis dreadnaught is DA/BT/Vanilla only. It looks like, at least until the next space marine codex comes out or new SW codex comes out our best options for fliers are as stated, invest in an aegis defense line(they're cheap, reasonable points and good insurance vs fliers).

2: Take allies with good fliers themselves, I'm working out a list that includes the Fang's IG garrison using some Vendettas for air cover myself. Vanilla marines for a storm talon, or BA for some storm ravens etc.

3: Ignore them. Fliers are good, no doubt, but they are usually many points that can't take objectives. If they stay zooming around they shoot once every other turn starting turn 2 at the earliest. It sucks watching a few guys every other turn get picked off but in the end if you play to scenario you'll do ok... if they drop to hover mode, light them up with long fangs or your in squad special weapons(2 meltas or 2 plasmas will wreck most fliers very fast.)

What I've been playing around with since I don't have much/any anti flier built and playing now is taking rune priests in important squads(I stick em in my troops) with storm caller. In my meta Vendettas are very popular, and so are lots of lascannons and demo charges. Storm caller + go to ground is a 4+ cover save... which isn't bad at all, on top of that the Ld10 from the priest will let you get back up barring really bad rolls. I started singing "Grand ol' Duke of York" last game because my grey hunters were popping up and down so much.
