I just worked this out last night, for a bit of fun. Chapter Traits: Cleanse & Purify, Die Standing HQ Captain w/ Plasma Pistol 75 pts Apothecary w/ Plasma Pistol 25 pts Standard Bearer w/ Plasma Pistol 25 pts 2x Command Squad Marines w/ Bolt Pistol & CCW x2, Plasma Gun x2 80 pts [Same Again] 205 pts ELITES Sergeant w/ Terminator Hons, Plasma Pistol 43 pts 4x Veteran Squad Marines w/ Plasma Gun, Plasma Cannon 102 pts [Same Again] 145 pts [Same Again] 145 pts TROOPS Sergeant w/ Terminator Hons, Plasma Pistol 40 pts 4x Tactical Squad Marines w/ Plasma Guns x2 80 pts [Same Again] 120 pts [Same Again] 120 pts [Same Again] 120 pts [Same Again] 120 pts [Same Again] 120 pts FAST ATTACK Sergeant w/ Terminator Hons, Plasma Pistol w/o Jump Pack 40 pts 4x Assault Squad Marines w/ Plasma Pistols x2 w/o Jump Pack 70 pts [Same Again] 110 pts [Same Again] 110 pts HEAVY SUPPORT Sergeant w/ Terminator Hons, Plasma Pistol 40 pts 4x Devestator Squad Marines w/ Plasma Cannons x4 200 pts [Same Again] 240 pts [Same Again] 240 pts 205 x 2 = 410 145 x 3 = 435 120 x 6 = 720 110 x 3 = 330 240 x 3 = 720 Total = 2615 The above army contains 71 Plasma weapons, the most possible in one detachment from the Standard Force Organisation chart. It's also the cheapest possible way to get that many weapons into an army, pointswise. Moneywise I think, suprisingly, that it comes out at less than £100. At least if you cast multiple weapons from Green Stuff it does. Obviously such an army would probably be easily chewed up, as it's not really strategically based, but for +21 points you can give all the Plasma Pistol armed characters a CCW. Also, I imagine if you added an extra five men into each squad, tweaked the characters' wargear, lost one HQ choice, added some vehicles and generally rounded it off it could become a very powerful force. But as it stands no, it was just a bit of fun, to see how many Plasma weapons one could cram in. Edit: Some Quick Stats Figures: 85 Points: 2615 Plasma Weapons: 71 Models per Plasma Weapon: 1.20 Points per Plasma Weapon: 36.83 Edit: Amended as Arkhan_Land noted. |

Impressive, but all of those possibilities of overheat are enough to make a commander hesitant. Also, it has alot of troop killing power but the lack of any 48 range weapons could make ot hard to compete with an army with lascannons.

You can actually throw in four more plasma pistols by sticking an Apothecary and a Standard Bearer into each of the Command Squads, and maybe two more if you can tweak the Company Champion's wargear.

I think the question "why so much plasma" is self explanatory. That is because plasma is just that cool. I mean why not so much plasma. Its like having a las army, or an army with missle launchers and grenade launchers. It just looks cool. Right?

I always have bad luck with plasma weapons. My IG always end up killing themself. Oh and guess what happend today when I played my Blood Titans for the first time? My plasma gunner rapid fired and hit one and overheated on the other. The shot didn't wound (on a 1) and my SM failed his armor save ! I'm sure I would kill most of my own army if I had 67 plasma weapons.

Very good point! I shall amend the list. <!--QuoteBegin-dunno@Nov 21 2004, 02:16 ok 2 questions...the 1st...can you give us some fluff as to why you are using so much plasma(just for a read) question of the 2nd. why so much plasma...you know they are dangerious and stuff like that. you know they are fairly short range compared to other guns and well...they are a death trap waiting to open! so why so much plasma [snapback]254075[/snapback] [/quote]I think you're taking it a bit too seriously. I really have no intention of using such an army, I just wondered how much plasma you could squash in an army, after I realised Plasma Cannons weren't purely DA any more. Fluffwise, I guess they could be some kind of curator based force, gaurdians of munitions stores and stuff, with access to a lot of older weaponry, as plasma weapons are supposed to be old and rare and stuff... And bloodinferno is right, plasma is cool. | |

The chapter could be named the holy suicidals. I think it would be amusing to field this just to see the look on your opponent's face, just the same way it would be amusing to use a 4000 point tzeech terminator squad. |

Ever thought of going against a land raider with this? Won't work... plasma is str 7, max. armor you defeat is 13... And, as said in the above replies, lots of overheat, and relative short range. It wouldn't stand a chance against more varied armies... |
