Default Assaulty Army gone shooty?

Howdy guys,

Today, I had a game, of 1500 points at my local store with a guy that plays chaos. I was running an assault heavy ravenwing heavy list, consisting of 5 SM bikes, a mounted commander, 2 attack bikes, and 2 LSTs, plus a whirlwind, a predator, a venerable dreadnought, 2 10 man tac squads, and the standard 8 man dev sqaud. The tac squads, bikes, attack bikes, and LST's were gonn charge up to the enemy, who had 2 rhino mounted squads, 2 non rhino mounted squads, 2 havoc squads, one of which infiltrated, a defiler, a prince, and a predator.

So I was like, meh, I'll assault this game. so, I got first turn, pulled up, and started shooting, softening up what I was going to assault and taking out big targets, like the crab and the tank. Yeah, well I had some awesome shooting, I took down 10 marines, the defiler, stunned the tank, and then was able to annihilate his infiltrating havocs in close combat.

I know my army wasn't assault heavy by normal standards, but for my normal style of dark angels, that was alot.... does anyone else have these wierd little flips of fate? they make an assault army that gets most of it's kills shooting, or a shooty army, that actually kills by assaulting?

Another story taht was funny, my friend had a single chaos marine in a squad left, and passed last man standing. He assaulted my full tactical squad, with his last marine, who had a reaper autocannon. Why he didn't shoot, I don't know.... But, this one marine with the reaper killed two of my marine in combat, and didn't die himself... until my master on bike caught up to him...

Such is any game thats played with the mighty yet fickle dice.

The dice can really make just about anything happen on the board, thats part of the fun.
I watched game the other day between Tau and Khorne. On the 3rd turn a unti of 5 Khorne Bikers was annhilated by 6 fire warriors...the bezerkers had only killed 6 on their charge and the 6 remaining hit and wounded with all of their attacks, then the zerkers failed 4 saves and the last two went down due to No Retreat and losing combat whilst outnumbered. The next turn the 3 remaining members of a chaos tac. squad made a total of 26 saves during the tau shooting phase...without failing. Dice are fickle...and yet powerful. Ye should respect them.

Kudo's to your marines, we have to smite down them heretic folks if we're ever going to make them respect us again.

makes me think of my best moment when i had Ig... put 4 wounds from plasmaguns on some terminators... my opponent rolled 4 sixes to save them!

Of course he started gloating, but he got bad karma, i used my ever faithful backup weapon... the lasgun. And killed 4 of them with the good ol trusty lasgun :yes:

Or in another similar incident this marine guy used his 250pts Land Raider to tank shock a Necroin Warrior squad, the necron guy decided to go for death or glory - and the Necron warrior rolled a 6 to glance and a 6 to destroy the LR. The marine player died.:yes:

Yeah well i can take my Blood Angels army as an example.Blood Angels are known for their notorious assaulting prowess,but no mine he he:lol:.
My Blood Angels are more of a shooty force.They have alot of shooty units and 2 assault units which do all the combat.
I have even managed to outshoot Tau on a number of occasions:yes:,which i find to be quite hilarious.

what about seeing a complete 15 men strong seercouncil being surrounded by tau fire warriors who charge the seer council and kill 5 warlocks without losing even a single fire warrior. letting the seercouncil test with a -5 modifier and let them run. but do to the fact the seer council was surrounded they got an auto kill.

It is needless to say the eldar played got massacred.

Bah, my tau are well known for mixing it up with chaos marines in cc.. My friend does have some rediculus bad luck though.. I think its the dice gods punishing him for bringing a minimum of 2 landraiders to any game.

Ever heard of the Tau close combat monsters? They are called gun drones...

1 occasion. Devilfish gets shot, 2 drones 'disembark'. One of them gets shot by Eldar guardians. The other charges said guardians all alone, ends up winning the combat, sends the guardians running off the table...
2nd occasion. Same devilfish gets shot. Drones disembark. One gets killed by 5 flayed ones, other keeps said flayed ones occupied for 4 turns, killing 2 in the process...
3rd occasion. Suit gets trashed in combat by chaos lord (str 8 daemonic speed ang god knows what else nastyness on I5). Drones shoot, inflict a wound, charge, and kill the thing...

This is the luck of a good friend of mine. His suits and warriors drop like flies, but his drones end up pulling the most miraculous stunts...

I feel sorry for anyone dumb enough to play two land raiders in a game against Tau...

That's like taking five hundred points of your army and throwing it away in exchange for the first two rounds of fire from a broadside squad--not a good deal at all.
