I just started playing LOTR after decided going for the High Elves because of their striking models and the beautifully sculptured heroes -- Glorfindel & Erestor especially. I played a game against a friend that uses Aragorn... to my surprise, I was able to kill his entire army without a problem, but Aragorn single-handly took out the rest of my army. I had 6 models including a Captain fighting him, and in the end, the free might every turn gives him the edge beating me back and killing 2 in the process.
Aragorn.. a free might hero with Anduril that kills most stuff on a 3+?
Well given that Aragon takes on about 30 Urukai in the film single handed (at least at the start of the whole Amon Hen scene) I am not sure there is a problem in terms of background.

Exactly- he is extremely powerful but thats entirely in line with his portrayal in the films especially.
In my opinion he is a little too powerful to use in most cases unless you are playing specific 'historic' scenarios.
PLAN CLAN MAN!!

I must take back what I said about Aragorn being over-powered.
Sure he's a monster when he's facing regular troop models, but today during a in-store GW campaign, after Aragorn killed 3 of my elves that trapped him in a small circle, Glorfindel led a second charge into the fight with 4 others.. all were supported with spears. Aragorn lost the fight due to inferior fight value compare to Glorfindel and were trapped, so he took literally 22 attacks in the face and fell in one turn. :w00t: I guess that free might isn't helping him much if his fight value is next to being laughable against elves. Now I think Boromir capt. of the white tower is even better than Aragorn at character killing.
He can be neutralised by bowfire and owerhelmed in CC.
Boromir of the White towe is the same story. Yes he can kick ass, but when fought against correctly he can fall in a single turn.
0)Ever heard of bows, compel and transfix??
"Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and terrifying to know"
Aragon is not over powered really as he is intended to be this superhero like king coming forward at the worlds must desperate time to lead them to victory. Also as metioned by someone befor me he is a very expensive model.
Aragorn is indeed hard as hell (and btw it should be 4+ to wound on anduril)... but compare him to the 250+ points spent on him (with anduril)
For that you can get around 25 uruk-hai...
In a 1v1 match with all those uruks vs just aragorn on his lonesome there will come a time when even he fails to get a six (and has no might left) and then hes gonna face a crap load of attacks.
Heroes are awesome in LOTR... but at the same time the points equivalent in troops always comes out better

Exiled until 5thED redo...
overall 'good' armies are far superior to evil armies in lotr... aragorn when fully kitted out is easily one of the best heroes - right up there w/the named elven heroes & boromir of the white tower.
but yes, just throw a wizard at any powerfull hero & use spells like sap will & then transfix before you swarm them.
of corse, i had to play easterlings because they are, imho, the best looking army when painted well! sadly, they're definately the absolute WORST! army to actually play...
