Someone in chat introduced me to this set of games: http://www.dp9.com/
and whilst thier models are not the greatest ever painted (seriously if they got better painters those modles would look way better) : http://www.dp9.com/Products/decalminisHG.htm
There is that feeling that the design has that iconic mech feel to it. Now aside from GW tau, who have mechs in support - anyone know of a mech-like game? (it being out in the UK would be a really big bonus )
Well, there's always the stand-by classic, Battletech. It's a fun game, with rules produced by FASA and minis produced by Ironwind Metals. Both the minis and the rules have gone through a lot of revisions, over the years, and it's generally heralded as a very complete and well-designed game.
Battletech also has a massive wealth of background material and fluff, including a huge series of novels. Like 40k, its universe is rich and detailed. If that appeals to you, I'd definitely consider Battletech.
That being said, there isn't really a very good system of balance--nothing that really comes close to the Points system used in GW games. Regardless of what balancing system you use (there are a few) there will always be mechs that really stand out as being too good.
If that doesn't bother you, it's a fantastic game, and you should definitely check it out.
I've heard good things about the one to which you linked, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Certainly, its mechs are more 'anime'-like than the Battletech battlemechs, but I'm not sure I like their aesthetic more, on the whole.
Once again, the conservative, sandwich-heavy portfolio pays off for the hungry investor!
SWEET DUDE! Thanks for the link, I love these things! If not for you I would never have found them, I ow you one.
WizKids - MechWarrior
This is a collectable miniatures version of battletech with very simplified rules. Your new pieces would work well, with the only problem being the whole "Clix" thing.
The rules are free and downloadable from the site. It has a large player base, and many tournemants across the continent.
Personally though, I prefer Battletech and the origional Mechwarrior RPG.
You could also do a search for Gundam rules.

Go do a search by manufacturer on coolminornot.com, look for Dreampod 9, you'll see a lot of great stuff. Particularly the stuff by Mason.
Anyone know any other good mecha-related games out there?
